Odd issue
« on: August 11, 2010, 06:23:19 pm »

               Hello,
.
After changing areas, the loading screen picture (not the whole screen) turned white. When I had loaded, some NPCs had metallic and one other colour covering them, face to toe, over armour and stuff.
Because I run on windows 7, I have had common crashes when loading and stuff, this time it happened again, but when I wanted to load the game, my character's portrait was white and it didn't show a screenshot of the load, and I got the error message that it could not load the module.
Said it may be corrupt or the load might contain some files not compatible with my current version.

'Posted
Have only the original game installed and with patch 1.69
For some reason, now all the small rings under objects when my character focuses on them, are in different colour from just being green.

Sorry for dumping this here without further specs, but it seemed like a problem which didn't need it. Am in a hurry currently in real life as well. I will give them if someone willing to help demands it though.

I would suggest posting your specs sooner than later, it helps those willing to help so they don't have to ask all the questions about your specs.

               32-bit or 64-bit system?

Win7 Compatibility mode is:
Video Card type/model is:
Video driver I.D. is:

Anything in override folder?
Did you disable shiny water?

Sounds like video needs adjusting off the top of my head which not necessarily reliable.

64-bit system, win7 compatibility is on xp.
Video card is ATI Mobility Radeon 4670
I don't know what to give for the driver besides the number 8.632.1.2000

The override folder has .dds and .tga files with

is_car_03
is_car_03s
iit_medkit_001
iit_midmisc_029

Hm, can't remember with older Bioware games, but I recall having filled the override folder myself with DA:O
These appeared on their own.

I'm a real novice when it comes to these things, even after all these years, pardon me.

EDIT: Oh and shiny water has been disabled for a while.

Ahh. So this a laptop or notebook then?

I don't know what to give for the driver besides the number 8.632.1.2000

From the little snooping I've done this appears to be an older driver.  Many ATI products are now upgrading to a version of the Catalyst but some have reported problems trying to do so.  Some notebook manufacturers are not supported by AMD and you'll need to check that.  I recall seeing Toshiba, Sony and Panasonic products falling into the unsupported group.

The override folder has .dds and .tga files with

is_car_03
is_car_03s
iit_medkit_001
iit_midmisc_029

My own installation includes 3 of those files but I have the NWN/SoU/HotU configuration. I doubt the single one different would matter.  You can try moving all the override files to a temporary folder and restarting, but it probably won't matter.  If it doesn't help, just move them back.  Problem is elsewhere.

Just to be clear... is this happening when you try to play the original campaign?  If so, is this the only module you have tried to load and play?

In the meantime, I'll try to find others who have issues using the same or similar Vcard.

Edit: Not related to the card or driver, but this may help...

White Textures, Missing Textures, Metalic Characters, Corrupt Textures...Fixed '<img'>

It's a long sticky from the legacy tech support forum so keep reading until you find a method to fix your problem. It seems to be a fix for replacing a possible corrupted bif file. Didn't read the whole thread. I will leave that up to you '<img'>

               Ooh, thanks a lot.

The link helped me solve it.

Aside from the occasional "NWN has stopped working" crashes when alt-tabbing or when loading a new area, things are running quite smoothly.

Need to check my driver stuff though. Odd thing, playing on a laptop.

Thanks again. I do wonder, what motivates one to help so much on this sleepy little forum of an old-old game. No need to answer, the thread can die I suppose O.o
