broken doors and transitions
« on: April 10, 2016, 06:22:18 pm »

Is it a common thing for doors and transitions to break (meaning that the tag name is unique so there can be no duplication issues here) when you try to get to another area?

I went on  one of my test runs for some quests on my buffy mod and suddenly found myself stuck outside of the highschool area. the door to would open but the transition was simply gone!

as an addon to this question:

I noticed that lately my character exits area's backwards (meaning that she is facing the door she just exits) and still stands in the door opening. Anyone know a fix for this?

never bind doors to doors or area transition to area transition

always use waypoints

a little side effect is that closing doors on opposite side will not close doors on your side, but that workaroundable...

Could you elaborate on the reasons for that Shadooow?

Thanks before hand

  1. no problems with pc camera/facing

  2.
  3. no problems with going back to previous area when you press W after you get into new area

  4.
  5. full controll of the pc new position in new area

               Door-to-door works fine.

The facing issue is fixed by right-clicking the door in the left-hand palette. Adjust Location by 180 degrees.

Thanks for the reply Shadooow,

I never found a problem with door to door transitions. I thought there was something new I had never experienced. I have found that the arrow displayed on the exiting portal provides the facing position relative to the arrival portal after the trans arrival. I haven't tested this, just always did it on every door and have always arrived facing away from the exit door. I think I will test this just to be sure. thing is that the automatic position engine calculates often puts you too close to the doors which leads to:

  • pc camera zoomed/rotated (at least if you play from top view like I do)

  • easy misclicking on the now opened doors which leads to previous area (very common especially with gates)

  • automatically open the door - while not opening the door is the issue with using waypoints, especially in PW environment, you want multiple times to be this way because opening the doors would allow players that doesnt have key free access
