Module Installer
« on: April 19, 2015, 03:29:12 pm »

Hi all!

I want to make some kind of installer of my module.

Is there any program wich helps doing this? wich recognize only the module using files or some program like this?

My brother has the diamond edition just like me. And i want to give him the files needed to play my module.

Friend Nebril2,

I don't know of any installers, which does not mean they don't exist but I've never had use for them and not heard of them in my travels. It all depends on what you used to build your module, and if you want to play single or multiplayer as far as what files your brother may need to play.

MULTIPLAYER:

If you want to host the module and have your brother login to play, you don't need to send anything (assuming no hak packs were used). But if you used hak packs you'll need to send those hak files and related .tlk files, these should be in the /hak and /tlk folders respectively (your bro will not need the module in this case).

SINGLE PLAYER:

If you did not use hak packs you need only send the .mod file, and it needs to be placed in the /modules folder. If you used hak packs you'll need to send those hak files and related .tlk files, these should be in the /hak and /tlk folders respectively in addition to the .mod file which should be handled as noted in the previous sentence.

Hope this helps.

They certainly exist, though I've never had occasion to use one.  I think I saw some information about them on Adam Miller's module pages, as he used an installer creator, and I think there was a link somewhere to what he used, which was free if I recall correctly.

What about the one built-in to NwN? C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\utils\nwcontbuild.exe

I wouldn't encourage the use of installers. Opening .exe files, even from trusted sources, is dangerous. Installing files manually isn't rocket science.

He's just trying to make it easier for his brother.  If he were distributing module files publicly with an installer I wouldn't like it, but he probably knows what his brother needs.
