Problem with ranger henchman
« on: May 18, 2013, 04:39:58 am »

               Hi,

My latest module is being beta tested. I have a ranger as a henchman that levels up to level 20. When he is set to melee with a longsword and shortsword he just stands there in the middle of battle and does nothing. I can even click on him mid-battle and he starts a conversation. If I set him to ranged attack he does fine. A tester on my beta blog mentioned that it might be the Improved Two-weapon feat causing the problem and that NWN doesn't know how to handle it for AI. They say it happens in other modules with high level rangers. I've tried removing the improved two-weapon feat from the packftrang1.2da and the CLS_FEAT_RANG.2da files but the ranger in my module still gets the feat and still stands there like an idiot in the middle of battle.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with ranger henchmen? Do you know of a solution or how I can prevent the ranger from getting that feat if that is what is causing the problem?

Thanks!

I am not certain what the problem would be but I do not think it is the Improved Two-weapon Fighting Feat. I have made a couple of Ranger henchmen who had that feat and they never presented any unusual problems. I do remember reading somewhere (unfortunately a long time ago and I do not remember the details) that giving the Point Blank Shot Feat to henchmen can cause bugs, and IIRC most of the standard Ranger Packages hand out that particular feat. You could try editing packftrang1.2da (if that is the level-up package being used) so that PB Shot is no longer given, and see if that resolves the issue.

I have also run into an issue with the AI where henchmen who are stealthed or invisible sometimes seemingly get confused as to whether they are supposed to be hiding or fighting and thus just stand around doing nothing in combat. Not sure if that could be applicable here, but if your ranger operates normally with missile weapons I suspect it is something different.
