Monsters for PC on level 40
« on: January 23, 2013, 06:58:04 pm »

Which of the original Bioware monsters/opponents found in the toolset are suited for characters on level 40? By "suited" I mean they are not a pushover. Are there even such?

My suggestion is to look at the CR for all those beasties. If you really want to read up on that stuff, go to the original source material and look at CR and ECL in the Dungeon Master's Guide for D&D 3.0 and 3.5. You'll find all the answers there.

CR is not always very accurate, but it is some idea.
But anyway, I don't know which CR of monsters would be suited for 40lvl players. '<img'>

prismatic dragon only probably, while dracolich and demilich might be also tough enemies for lvl 40, their spell DCs are low for 40 and their zero AC makes them easy target to anyone, not to mention dracolich's vulnerability to healing spells that means at lvl 40 fullheal, then one hit and its over

adamantine golem is near 40 power too, but his low ab makes him no problem to anyone, casters can kill him via damage shields anyway

your best chance is to take any existing creature and level her up at least to 40

A well equiped, high level character can destroy anything in the standard game. If you are creating encounters for level 40s then you really need to build custom creatures. They will also need custom armour and weapons, etc.  The only real test though will be to put it up against various character types in game and see what happens.

Well, I guess I will have to create my own creatures, indeed. '<img'> Thanks for help.

Grani, if you're willing to give me some details about any mechanical changes and the general gear level, I can throw some together for you and send you the erfs.

This would definitely help and would give me blueprints I could use to compare my own creatures with when I make them.

What do you mean by mechanical changes? If you mean changes to any existing skills, feats and spells, then there are none.  About the gear level, I'd say it's the level of most powerful BioWare items, however, players can craft their own gear which in theory can be more powerful. Crafting in my module, however, requires craft armor/weapon skill, money and any skills/abilities you want to enchant your item with.

So in general, I'd say gear level is on BioWare's level or a little higher.

Thank you. '<img'>

So completely default rules, no multi-classing restrictions, and level 40?

"Most Bioware items" isn't very informative since their items can go up to +10.  What's the max AC bonus on gear?  How about weapon enhancement?  How much damage immunity/damage resistance do people typically have?

Large difference between people walking around with 5 resists and +5 gear at level 40 versus 20-30 resists and +15 gear.
