Weather not working
« on: June 03, 2011, 11:14:36 am »

I am running NWN on Windows 7 in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 2. The toolset works ok but for some reason the snow and rain effects aren't working. I have tried to work out why, but cannot find any good reason for it. Ideas anyone?

Are you sure the area settings have the areas set to Exterior, and Above Ground, and Natural?

Besides that, I would check your graphics settings, sometimes, Weather Effects wont show if certain graphical settings are disabled.

Yes the settings are all correct. I have taken a look at the graphics settings but nothing seems out of place. It's a complete mystery. Thanks for your reply Baaleos.

If you start the module using the test option from inside the toolset (F9 key IIRC) then weather doesn't show in the first area you arrive in until you exit and re-enter the area. Other areas will be fine. Start the module normally from the main menu and you won't see this problem. It's a module initialization issue that happens only when you use the test option.

If you aren't using the test option then you have something else more serious going on. Can't say what exactly but I'd guess something with the graphics card &/or driver. Tho if the game appears fine except for rain and snow I would seriously doubt you have a graphics card/driver problem and would suggest double checking the weather settings in the module and its areas to ensure they are actually turned on. You might also check the display options for the NWN game (from main menu). As I recall there was a setting in there you could use to disable weather but I'm totally not positive about that.

Just taking a stab in the dark here,
but isnt there an ini parameter for disabling weather?

Inside nwnplayer.ini or nwn.ini ?

Just guessing, I cant remember for sure.

I didn't realise the weather didn't work immediately in test mode. I tried starting it from the main menu as you said, and the weather was fine. Thank you for your help Axe.

Thought I'd also point out that it is only a visual thing. According to the game engine, the weather is snowing/raining in the area, it simply won't show up on screen until the area gets reloaded.
