sqrt: DOMAIN error
« on: January 16, 2011, 05:58:09 am »

Hi folks, has anyone seen this error before, or know how to fix it?

Google & the forum search didn't give me much of a clue as to what it causes this.  I know it's not a resource limit, unless CEP is pushing it over that limit all by itself.

I encountered the error while looking through tails.

Its tileset error, most probably in area you want to open there is tile that does not exist in current SET file. Or maybe something similar but definitely tile/set related.

Huh that's weird.  I did have an area open, but i think it was a 2x2 microset.  I'll try updating CEP & seeing if that helps.  I'll see if I can reproduce the error again to help narrow it down.  Ty for the response ShaDoOoW.

               sqrt: DOMAIN error

This error sometimes occurs when you click on an entry in the palette and try to add an object to the game (e.g. creatures, items, placeables, and tiles – might be others). The error can also occur when you select an appearance in the Toolset. In either case, the error is caused by a faulty compile of an .ascii model. There are three possible solutions to this error:

1.   Decompile the offending model from binary back to .ascii format, then recompile.
2.   Replace the compiled version of the model with an .ascii version.
3.   Fix the model.

I have never seen this error because of a missing entry in a .SET file. A missing SET entry condiiton throws a "List Index Out of Bounds" error - a missing resource error.

Download NWN Miscellany - its got a lot of useful information collected from various sources - social.bioware.com/project/3850/#files

Hey Pstemarie, thanks to you I remembered where I encountered this problem.

Avanos the Rogue: don't you have NWNCQ by any chance? AFAIK this error shows in sewers tileset, but if you click OK it works. If its as Pstemarie says and believe rather him, then some NWNCQ model is badly compiled. This needs to be fixed in NWNCQ if its not already, try to download latest NWNCQ version. If you do not have NWNCQ forget it, but I am sure I had the same problem after I "installed" it.

Avanos, I noticed that you mentioned CEP. If CEP is the only custom content you have installed then the issue is most definitely with a model in CEP. If you can isolate the offending tile/placeable/creature/etc. send an error report to CEP. Also, have you tried updating CEP using their updater?

Yep, I ran the CEP updater last night and it still throws the error.  It's happening on one of the boar appearances, I'll pin down which one(s) this evening.  It is the GoG version, and I know it had some issues with patch level when it was first released.  So I'll check up on that as well tonight, and post back when I know a bit more.

Thanks for the help folks!

Alright so I've checked NWN, CEP & the error still shows up.  It only errors out on the following model.

cep2_top_v23.hak
tailmodel.2da
LABEL                                                                MODEL          ENVMAP
      2694    "Swine: Hog B/W Banded*"                               hog                 ****

I've never messed with models at all, so I'm not sure what to do next.  Can anyone confirm that this tail model is causing issues, or is it specific to my install?

Yes, there are two versions of that darn hog causing this issue. The CEP Team does know about it as well. There's been a few reports of this on their forum.

I get this error from time to time since NWNCQ is installed in my override, normally from right clicking on a tile to access the Tile Properties window. Enough clicks resolves the issue though.

FP!

See there, they said cloning was bad.  I guess it might be OK for
bacon.  Still a warning sign to all the mad scientists out there!

Sadly with this particular one, it appears to go on forever.

Thanks for the feedback folks.  I think it's all down to waiting for the next CEP update, unless someone can figure out an easy fix.

The model for the hog is the problem. Assuming its a reference for scaling, I'll bet the appearance.2da model (i.e. creature model) throws the same error. Export the model and run it through compDcomp, decompiling to an ascii format. Then place the new model in a hak over cep.

If the error continues after decompiling the model to ascii format then the model will have to be manually repaired.

For those of you using NWNCQ - the sqrt:Domain error in that case is a bad tile model(s). Report the tile numbers to Chico so he can fix it/them.

Ok you're awesome, that fixed it.  Thanks a bunch!

Is Chico on these forums, or should I find him elsewhere?

I'd post a message for Chico on the Vault page for NWNCQ - he tends to respond there more quickly than here. He might also maintain a thread here, but I'm not sure (I don't use NWNCQ).
