Best Hack n' Slash Modules?
« on: February 05, 2016, 01:38:59 am »

So I've been addicted to the Aielund Saga for a long time, to me it's always had the perfect amount of Hack n' Slash for a module (I'm not terribly into mods that have a lot of role-playing).

What are some other great Hack n' Slash mods that you guys would recommend?

Citadel has a detailed world and complex storyline.  They serve as an excuse to fight hordes of Impossible enemies.

Yeah, I played that one and found it too all over the place and imbalanced in terms of gameplay. Maybe I should try again someday. Any other recommendations?

Try it again some day.  I hated it too the first time I played it, but gave it a second chance since it is one of the few modules that takes the character over a wide range of levels.  There were plenty of battles that forced me to reload ten times to win.  In the process, I had to figure out a lot of different tactics and learn a lot about different combinations of powers/abilities/feats/spells.  And though the module is imbalanced in terms of the enemies are always way more powerful than you, they are balanced in terms of what they can and cannot do.

If you do go back to it, be sure to read the first two-and-a-half pages of the Walkthrough (the very first section before "Beginning to Play").  I didn't read it the first time I tried to play the module.  In particular, that part of the Walkthrough mentions that the module was designed to be played on Normal, and not Hardcore, difficultly.  That is a big deal.

Hmmm. Thanks for the suggestion. I got the feeling with the mod that you can waltz over to an area that you have no chance of beating but then there are other areas that are more manageable, I guess it's just down to finding areas that are okay, leveling up, and then going back to an insane area later.

For solid Hack & Slash modules that will not distract you with a lot of RP stuff I like the Blackguard Trilogy and Shadows of Darkmoon. H4 - The Throne of Bloodstone is not as good as these, but OK for a pure hack & slash module if you are looking for one for higher level characters.

You don't think Aielund Saga has a lot of RP options? '<img'> ''

Thanks!

Aielund doesn't really have a whole lot of RP options, no. Your alignment has no effect on where the game goes or ends up, you can only have a romance with one character for each gender, etc. That's all fine by me because I don't care about RP stuff so much.

I never really considered that stuff to be RP options. I always just considered it the banal technical parts of the mod, which I could easily bypass with the console commands as I saw fit. I personally find the dialog options, skill checks and story line to be the role play parts. But that's really all just semantics anyway. Enjoy Diablo. It's a lot of fun!

Ahhh. Okay, I never considered that to be RP options so much, but I can see your point. The thing about Aielund is, you can't really change anything by doing things differently, and in that sense I don't see it as being very RP oriented.

Your character starts at 3rd level, about what level can you get up to in this game?
