Most addictive module?
« Reply #15 on: October 22, 2014, 06:10:11 pm »

It is interesting to see what other folks are playing and what they find most enjoyable. Many of the above modules I have never heard of, much less played, but because of this thread I will try to fit them into my schedule. Assuming they are still available for download.

I suppose if push came to shove and I had to choose the most addictive module for me personally, I would probably choose Alleyslink's "Castle Spulzeer."  It is the one I tend to return to most often, anyway.

@ Nick The Noodle The reason I didn't want to mention my own modules or those I have playtested for others is because that's not addiction. By the time those modules are released it's more like you've finally got the floor polished just enough for the most pernickety of masters and you can finally go home  '<img'> .

So by all means play my modules if you so choose. Just click the link in my sig and scroll down until you find them.

I loved Cormyrean Night and that is definitely on my replay list.

I enjoyed Claw Chronicles, the frustrating part was that the series is unfinished.

One that I plan on replaying soon... the Prophet series.

Cormyrean Nights:

Was (is) a plot driven story that in its time was a critic of the NWN Official Campaign. It remains among the very best of the early Hall of Fame modules. Its replay value by character class / alignment is actually quite brilliant. It further starts the PC at level 6 if I recall correctly and develops the player through the "sweat spot arc" that many player truly enjoy. i.e. Levels 7 - 15 where the balance of the game / risk of death / importance of one magic item is at its very best. My only critic of this very old gem is the limited henchmen. If some talented scripter (as a service to the community) ever updated the mod to 1.69 and inserted a Henchmen = 3 feature without breaking it... this mod would frankly be among the best of the best to this day.

I nice starter mod  for Cormyrean Nights with a "linear but poignant story" is Tragedy in Tragador by <insert author>. It levels you up about the correct amount and gives your PC a history and a few magic weapons / goodies about the correct power level

CC1/2

Sadly a common theme of unfinished series. Indeed the vault is littered with them.

Ironically the very lament of disappointment actually points to the quality of the mods and replay value.

Yet in an off themselves they still have immense value and replay value. The original Paladin series by <insert author> ... Dawn, etc is much the same. A tremendous mod despite its age and incompleteness. Alazander's mod series including Crimson Tide of Tethyr is another incomplete with immense value in and of itself. Kale's Rangers....

Everything by Baldercarn....

I could easily have included them in my post ; albiet I thought they were recent enough to be well known. '<img'>

Since I mentioned Tragedy in Tragidor above (as a starter mod) I guess I will feel free to spin out a few more gems from my historic memory.

A number of newer players may be unfamiliar with these gems that were in their day quite highly thought of.

I would consider these mods to have high re-playability factors as well but. (writing/NPC/immersion)...the downfall of these gems is that they are short / limited / lower level and probably need you to discover some more mods (like above) to further develop the adventurer you want... I cannot begin to tell you how many level 3 - 7 local vault builds still litter my NWN file folder. At least I have hundreds of choices and a spread sheet....

1) Tragedy in Tragidor.

Poignant story telling albeit linear plot. Level 1 - 7 ish as I recall. Some critic on spawns in one section but really be prepared. A Drow companion with an interesting story as I recall.

2) < Insert Name > Murder Mystery Module and others by AUTHOR EL DANO

A bit of an original concept in NWN at the time. High high replay-ability as the the who done it is random if I recall correctly. It changes if you restart the module. This is Neverwinter Nights meets Agatha Christie. Note not much "action" - more a thinking / reading persons cup of tea. El Dano's first module based on a D&D solo book adventure is also very strong

3) UK The Sentinel by (insert Author>

A bit of a rural Cormyrean Nights. NPCs well written and a plot well translated from PnP to NWN. Really wonderful frankly and well rounded NPCs... just short.

Edit above:

El Dano - Black Thorn (murder mystery) and Mountain of Mirrors - I just recalled.

4) Torslunda by Luspr

Luspr started his career in NWN but also was a part of the Ossian team on Daggerford. Quality writing. I think he had plans to update and expand this shorter gem but alas not so much recently.

5) Citidel by the Sea (Blue Ares or updated version ?

A dragon magazine module conversion that was very well done. The original release was good but the author updated it a few times... adding among other things a really interesting NPC (wild elf ranger) and a few more poignant story moments.

Anyway I could opine at length having played a few hundred vault entries and many a few times each....

I just hope these older gems may "tweek" some interest in the newer players.

Offline (Single Player) games do not compare to online games, where there are live players & DMs (if the DMs are good that is)....

I suspect the most addictive Online Server Module I've played on was "The Awakening", great custom content & very well balanced...

Offline I'd say Paths of Ascension was the best hands down...  (An extremely good level 1 - 20 module)
(if you can get your hands on it anymore...)

Don't know if it's in my downloads or not....  (Can probably upload it)

_Guile, I did not find Paths of Ascension in your google drive, but I did find it here:

http://neverwinterva...6175/index.html

It seems to indicate there that it goes to level 40. (Max Character Level 40)

I got 404 errors when clicking on the download links for both the single-player and multiplayer versions of the module on that page.
