Wanted: Low magic, Epic, Multiplayer module
« on: March 18, 2012, 07:28:51 pm »

A friend of mine and I wanted to try a low magic, epic module. I tried the search option at Neverwinter Vault but I keeped getting single player modules. I am hoping that there is a good multiplyer epic module where the developer forgot to put the words "low magic" in his discription of the module.

Any suggestions?

The short version is that I haven't yet run across any, but Hunt for a Necromancer is sort of low magic and can be played MP. In particular, most of the drops aren't too uber and if you can exercise any spending restraint, you can get close to low magic.

You may find the thread "recommendations for low-magic, epic-level campaign ?" of interest. I haven't played all of those modules yet, but if you play any or find any others, I'd love to hear your impressions.

I'd look at the Aielund Saga.

You get up to +7 items at level 30+, but you aren't running around immune to everything with 50 damage resistance or something.  There's only a few items which even have crit or sneak immunity (and I believe they're all Full Plate with basically no other properties besides AC).

If you're wanting to be happy with a +2 sword at level 30, it's not for you, but if you want something where your character matters more than the items you have, I think you'll enjoy it.

Aielund Saga Act 1: Nature Abhors a Vacuum

Not trying to derail your thread, but I have a related question I've posted in the general forum just now...

I think he is looking for a +3 - +5 max item module, probably around +3...

Low magic modules make Mages / Clerics more or less Godly in my honest opinion...

But then, that's from a PVP Perspective, of course you can make the monsters very uber and very easily too, since all the PC has are these crummy items that really don't offer much in the way of aiding / protecting the PC...

A +3 world would get owned by a simple spell of Premonition, where the caster get's +5/30 DR...

It would be pretty much a Multi-class Caster world, otherwise the PC would suffer from lack of haste, and other powerful benefits from spells...

It's hard to say what you are looking for when you say "Low Magic", because a truly "Low Magic" world would be something like Krynn / Dragon Lance, that's consider a true low magic world, though there are much more extreme cases of Low Magic, where I believe most spells don't work and +3 would be the most powerful weapon / armor in the game...

I've played on many different types of modules, definitely, but low magic worlds tend to have much less appeal to me and many other players.  Part of that stems from the lack of the ability to make great & powerful characters, you more or less are greatly restricted in what is a viable character, if you are a power player that is, if not, then RP holds much more desire in these type of modules...

Personall I believe it's far too much work to make a quality / low magic Multi-player module, because the amount of storyline & thought required to make it even noteworthy...  But that's just my thoughts..
