It's been a very longtime, but you could start with Part II I suppose, as you should begin that new adventure with a level 1 PC again, meant to be the successor of the Part I hero.
I don't remember any major difference between the two parts, and considering the latest one being often better than the earliest module, because of the "builder skills improvments"...
And both are very very long modules, so...
I would always recommend to play any serie from its very start, even prologue, but this one might be one of the few exceptions.

Allow me to quote readme: :"Do I need to play TH1 in order to play TH2?

No, but it will help to establish the scene and history. There are plenty of references to TH1 in TH2. The story of TH1 is summarized at the end of this description."

I liked aielund saga a lot actually(finished it last week with a sorc)  although i felt like it lead the char around to specific personality specifics a bit to much if you know what i mean.  SOmthing on par with aielund would be fantastic

I think Tales of Arterra has a great, epic feel to it (it's a Monty Haul).

Another "epic feel" mod is AL2 - Crimson Tides of Tethyr.  Nations at war and all that.  It's not really a series, per se, though you can play through all three of Alazander's modules in sequence and feel at home.

I loved TH 1 - even more before they reshaped it. Very challenging and I tried with a Rogue, a Wizard and an Arcane Archer I think, found it provided a great feel for different characters.

I did not like TH2 at all... I tried, and found the 'innovations' with mining, etc.. just boring and a waste. But TH1 was among the best 4 I had in my life.
