cracking premium modules?
« on: March 08, 2011, 11:12:14 am »

Is there a possibility to turn off the online activation of the premium modules? I would like to use them on linux. Installation files are in .exe but it's possible to unpack them on linux to the game's folder. Unfortunately playing them is impossible, because DRM system doesn't work on linux at all. It works as if I had no internet connection, therefore I can't even start playing them. I tried everything but while plugins theorically work on linux, the DRM system doesn't.

Is there any way to disable the DRM? I have the legal version which I have bought, but I can't use it due to the damn DRM system. I haven't even played half of them yet '<img'> And it's not like sharing how to disable it would hurt anyone's sales because they aren't sold anymore.

I hope you'll get some deserved help, even if not from me.
That ***¶çÁ«)Ç°°8*** system pissed me off at the time already too...

If it was up to Bioware I am sure they would have released a fix for that by now, however it is Atari's reponsibilty and I don't think they really care, nor do they realize that they could be making money from NWN1 products if they sold them at a place like some on this forum have suggested, Steam.

Hm... As I see it there are countless other completely free modules out there, that are a match and even superior to the premium modules, and certainly the original campaigns.
In many cases they are more cohesive and original than anything official(when you cut the red tape wonders happen '<img'> )

This link may be of help, though you may need to be playing on the same system in which you installed the original mods? (ie; does not help me on my new system):

Couldn't agree more.  There are hundreds of outstanding modules out there.  All you have to do is check the threads here, or check MotY on the Vault, or you can click the link in my signature for modules that won Golden Dragon Awards and/or were nominated to win one.

I used to be upset that I missed out on the premium modules, but there's just too many good mods for free...

I beg to differ. Premium modules used to work on Linux. Bioware used to provide .zip versions of the Premium modules for non-Windows users, and the DRM system used to work.

Not sure about now since I didn't play premium modules for a while, but I don't see why they shouldn't work anymore on Linux.

Of course, they can only work if you bought the premium module while they were still for sale.

To those posting that there are good modules available on the Vault, I actually agree that there are many excellent modules on the Vault. But, why bring it up? The OP never said he has run out of modules to play; he is looking for a way to play the particular modules he mentioned.

As someone who would like to try out some of the no-longer available premium modules (and who echoes the sentiment that Atari is missing an opportunity to make a couple bucks by having them available on Steam or GOG), I think it's too bad they are gone and I know I would be a bit miffed if I had paid for them and the powers that be had abandoned them in a way that rendered them less-than-functional. Especially because of DRM, which is so often a fail because it imposes inconvenience on legitimate purchasers while the people who use a cracked version often end up with a more functional and easier-to-use product.
