returnnig to building- kid's module.....

               OK- after a very long gap from building I’m back, trying to
put something together for my 6 year old son (who was, to some extent, the
reason I stopped in the first place). I’m looking for a bit of general input and
ideas here plus some suggestions for haks.

  Our story concerns a
modern small boy (I’m assuming halfling with a custom head here- anyone seen a
good modern kid’s/halfling’s clothes hak- pyjamas would be great!). He’s bored
in his room (danmar’s excellent staging area has a few modern rooms to play
with). The adventure is based round going to the cupboard in his room- if
attired normally the door leads to a closet- however, if dressed up from his
dressing up box (in the room) it will lead to a small ,puzzle based adventure…..

So far I’ve got ideas for a pirate’s treasure hunt, a knight
besting a dragon and possibly some sort of caveman adventure.  Trying to go for puzzle based stuff and really
avoid the thing being combat based. I’d been toying with the idea of object
based puzzles which relied on bringing objects from his room into the fantasy world-
flashlights, ghetto blaster, box of lego bits etc…

  Basically- anyone
got any ideas or input they’d like to add in (plus a Halfling striped pyjamas

               I was recently suggesting we could do with more boy heads, currently I think we only have the Sigil street urchin from CODI (who probably looks too mean for your purpose) and the ones included in Nathraiben's  Customizable Children V3.0 (this could be what you're looking for).

In case you're looking for other, stranger children the hero could befriend or antagonize, Ancarion's 3rd Edition Orcs has orc children and there are also bugbear children included in exN's Bugbear's family (I think there's a bugbear child included in CEP, too, in case you're planning to use CEP; not sure if it's the same model).

Anyway, nice idea. I hope you'll consider sharing the module once it's finished!

               As there are plenty of animals and birds, you could do some sorta safari adventure.  Perhaps having to find and photograph/capture, a variety wildlife - a ranger based adventure.

               wildlife photography! brilliant... seem to remember the game 'beyond good and evil' doing that particularly well.... as for friends- I'd liked the idea of the fluffy purple dragon (ryuujin's hak) and a myconid sprout!

               If you simply add in CEP 2.x, you will greatly expand the range of animals and birds  you can use for stories, not to mention monsters '<img'>

               not sure if this stuff will interest you as 6 is pretty young for these sort of puzzles but look here and here. Actually my 4.7 year old nephew likes the hedgemaze game already ( and wants me to make a cats vs dogs version ) - which I imported into nwn and for the logic puzzles I have a way of importing those too.  One day I'll release  a puzzle mod with that stuff in there, but you can use it too if you're interested.

               This sounds like a great project. Start a project page for it. I'm sure lots of people are interested in watching this module grow and eventually released!

It would also be a good way to use the module as a teaching tool. Perhaps have one level with a kitchen theme and the goal is to make different sandwiches or something like that.

I can see this.  At one point while playing in his room, Mom come by saing it is time for lunch, taking him to the kitchen.   She tells the boy that if he want cheese on his samdwich it is in the frige.   The fridge become your new doorway to adventure,   upon opening the door to the frige to get his cheese.  It starts and adventure to find the Cow and milk it, then churn it into cheese.  For instructions on how to do each quest you can have the boy ask the mother a question upon opening the door to the frige.   "Mommy, How is chesse made?"

               Hm... I suspect the kitchen level is more likely to be the galley on the pirate ship.... keep the hungry pirates happy before leading thme off to find the treasure!

As one who remembers the days when refrigerators had latches to keep them closed, and couldn't be opened from the inside, the idea of having a kid climb into the refrigerator gives me chills...
