Dont know if you got your answer.Hope you did.
Open up your NWN directory (windows explorer in XP for example). Note all the folders called Mod(ules) Hak , Erf, Movies, Sounds. Browse it doesnt hurt.
When you open up the sub folders you will generally see files - often associated with a very similar extension to their name. PotSC.hak for example inthe Hak folder if you have that premium module. If you have a very vanilla version of the game perhaps the file folders are somewhat empty.
So in general "download" the CEP Haks, or community module from the NWN Vault (IGN website). Put the files in the corresponding folders. Modules or .mod in Module folder. CEP are Haks - so they go in the hak folder, Movies have an extension, sounds have their extension. erfs, etc etc etc
No subfolders in the subfolder - place the files directly in. i.e no subfolder called CEP in the Hak folder.
Dont worry what you place in these folders including erfs. The game will ONLY draw on the resources it needs and will not interfere with your original campaign playability.
Modules are then launched from the main interface - play other module. You dont launch the content of the haks, erfs, sounds, etc. They are linked in the community mods.
There is one exception called somewhat obviosuly the override folder. Be careful what you put in but dont be scared. Most players of single player mods would be lost without Tony K's henchman AI over ride, or CQ graphic (baseline) upgrades, or perhaps CEP heads and AD' "colorized spell icons".
Make back up copies of your override folder in "my documents". You may want to minimize what is in there for example if you play a PW online ; the override could interfere with the pw. Keep one clean copy for online play.
Good luck and good gaming.
