So after years and years of playing and promoting single player mods ; I started to experiment with the toolset.'Posted

One of the fantastic discoveries I made was 69ME69 - Henchmen "erf kit". Very easy to use and very detailed instructions.

I gathered a number of older mods - particularly PnP conversions - where I would add henchmen. Works really slick. Easy to incorporate. Not much in the way of "roleplaying" unless I take the next steps and add plots and plot items; but fun and interesting for complete party mechanics in combat. Old school because you have the party of 4 exploring the dungeon or country side. Much along the line of The Sunless Citidel mod on the vault by jeff Dueleez . For levels 1- 7 you need less character developement and more "survival" tactics.

My favorite so far is a mod by "thegeroge" - a noted quality contributor. In Search of Adventure.

I simply added the erf, scripts, as directed and then added arch type henchmen (under merchant faction as suggested).
- Dwarven Fighter
- Human Cleric
- Halfling Rogue
- Elven Wizard

Now when I play I choose the 3 companions to suppliment my build. "Pick them up in the bar". What a blast. No breakage in 10 hours of play. I suspect combat CR is up because of the power rating of the party but that works too. Cleared the (B2) Cave of Chaos, cleared the castle (B9), looking to find the Silver Princess.

Note: these are for personal use and I do not intend to put on the vault. All the credit for the mod goes to thegeorge or the mod creator.

There are many other older PnP conversions that would be eligable. Lomars mods in particular where very good in their day.

I wonder a couple of things i.e. Help

1) How do I update the very oldest of the mods to ensure I have more than 1 henchman companion. Simply saving "with expansions requirements" does not seem to do the trick (consistently).

2) Any suggestions at other mods I should consider? Especially good atmosphere mods that are not particulary PnP recreations ?

In the toolset go to Edit -> Module Properties -> Events and open up the script in the OnModuleLoad slot (if any, if not you could put in the default Bioware script "x2_mod_def_load" and edit that). Add the line:

SetMaxHenchmen(3) ;

somewhere into the script. That will allow you to have up to 3 henchmen in your party (or "SetMaxHenchmen(4);" to use 4, etc.). Save the script. If it is a default Bioware script, indicated by a prefix like "nw_", "x0_", or "x2_" in the name of the script it might be a good idea to save it under a different name.

Actually PnP conversions are probably your best bet since more story and role-play oriented modules will typically either provide their own henchmen or be specifically premised on there being a single adventurer in certain situations  (a cutscene, for example, might not work as it is supposed to if there are a bunch of henchmen the author never expected to be there wandering around in the middle of it). In either case you run a greater risk of mucking up the author's own arrangements with regard to henchmen. However I would imagine that most modules that like the typical conversion are oriented toward or at least allow multiplayer party play would be likely candidates for what you are doing.

               Thanks RK.

I figured as much as well on the PnP and in particular the older PnP of the SOU and pre SOU days.

I have played 100's and I wouldnt mess with something as complex as Aielund etc - but I still love the party of 4 PnP recreations. Coop or DM play at connections is best but I find I dont have the time to block off "hours anymore" so at least I get old PnP felling in 30 minute snapshots if I choose.
