Humourous Modules

               When I get heartily sick of all that grim "Thou art destined to save the Realms from a great and terrible evil!" business, which is frequently, I like nothing more than a good chuckle. Epic adventures are nice and all, but they do tend to take themselves very seriously, not to mention drag on a bit.

Sadly, after much rummaging through the Vault, I've found that genuinely funny modules are rather thin on the ground. Granted, there are a few high points, but for the most part you're forced to choose between relentless fart jokes or gratuitous nudity. I'm British by birth so toilet humour is very much a part of my national heritage (thank you Benny Hill), but you've got to draw the line somewhere.

So, have you played a module recently that had you in paroxysms of hysterical laughter? Or even caused you to smirk a bit? I'll settle for a good smirk if that's all that's on offer. Come on... sharing is caring.

               It's been quite awhile and it's an old mod and so might be a bit dated, or even broken by patches, but I recall chuckling a bit when playing MokahTGS's "Vertex 1 - State of the Union".

               That's funny. I played a few modules, but I can't remember one which was... funny like you want it. A few made me smile, which could be even better, but they never were "Humourous Modules".
And as always, those pretending to be... weren't.
One piece of advice, one you know of already: If the author says: "You're going to have the laugh of your life!" or "I'm the funniest writer around!"? I suggest you simply avoid it...

There was that (adult) one, 'A Banshee In The Basement', and the title sounded quite promising but I never finished it. Maybe I should...

But it's a damn good question and I'm listening too!

About a "humourous" or "parody" search in the vault Site itself? I got a few interesting answers but, strangely, I can't come up with a proper copy/paste link showing what I found...

               Tough question, also because humour is very subjective.

The first series that comes to my mind is Stefan Gagne's Penultima (starts with Hub & Part 1). I can't say if it's your cup of tea though, it's a series of linear hack and slash parodies including OOC humour but not a lot of toilets, I think. Stefan Gagne is an author of high quality mods; just be aware that this series has to be seen in context as his first building attempt (think 2002/2003). In any case, it's getting better along the way and the later chapters of Penultima also feature some very innovative puzzles and visuals, if I recall correctly. So while it's certainly not the best series around, it *might* be the best explicitly humourous one I know of and definitely worth a try.

Other recommendable, not purely humourous mods but with a considerate portion of humour:

That name has been floating around in my mind for some time now, it's just too catchy. Now I finally know where I picked it up...
