Zokan of the Elk tribe

               I know there is a way to make peace with him, and give him the cure. But he won't surrender, and he won't talk. I've loaded it a half a dozen times, and i always have to kill him. What am i doing wrong?

               Do you have the token from the druid in Beorunna's Well?

Edit: Oops. After further mind wracking, it is the Elkhart shaman who gives you the token if you rescue him from the cave off the road to the fort. Sorry.

If you don't have the Feather of Peace before encountering the Uthgardt gate guard, the entire tribe will be hostile and ruin any plans for negotiating a peaceful solution.  In that case, killing the leader is the only way to obtain Daelen's quest item and/or satisfying  Damas' request.

However, if you have a save available BEFORE entering the Elk headquarters for the first time, you can seek out the required artifact as described in the previous post and the Zokan dialogue will appear.
