[SPOILERS] What if both heroes failed?
« on: July 11, 2013, 08:02:21 am »

               *Spoiler warning*
This contains spoilers for all 3 official campaigns, so read no further if you don't want any campaign spoiled. Each campaign has its own forum for spoilers, but since this thread contains spoilers for all 3, I wasn't sure where to put it. I hope this is an appropriate place for this discussion.

What if the hero from the OC failed, and the hero from SoU and HotU also failed? Morag with the power of the creator race, Herodis with the power of Undrentide's mythal, and the Valsharess with the power of Mephistopheles and her hordes would all be trying to conquer the world. They would surely meet, and they would surely not get along well.

Who do you think would win the inevitable conflict?

I think any one of those would be a solid premise on which to base a module. And, even better, all three would make a great setting for an interesting (and dangerous) persistent world, Faerun: Rise of Tyrants. :-)

The area around Neverwinter is held by the reptilian Morag. The area controlled by her regime is one in which the formerly free races are slaves again. But, her vision is one in which the whole of Faerun bows to the Old Ones. The desert Anauroch is ruled from floating cities, as it has not been since the days of Netheril. Heurodis has formed a tenuous alliance with the shadow city, Thultanthar. Together they contend with dangerous malaugrym, but Heurodis' alliance of undead, medusae, and shadovar have plans beyond the ancient desert. And, the Valsharess controls the other drow matrons and has influence with mind flayers, eye tyrants, and other powers of the underdark. Her diabolical hordes now battle in Waterdeep.

Heroes could fight against any of those three powers or (somewhat less heroically) be agents for one of them against one of the others.

Who would win? Whichever side the PCs are on. :-P

Not if the PCs are the same heroes who couldn't get the job done on their first three tries.

               IMO Meph would rule.

The Valsharess was an unwilling tool of Meph who he could have easily destroyed along with all her Red Sisters.

Posing a confrontation of all the balors, beholder, itthilids etc vs. the lizard folk & Morag seems a noncontest, to me, anyway.  But Meph can rule both Hell and all above with equal dominance.  He eats souls!

Now, the potential of Heurodis to turn all her enemies to stone might be powerful but if the pertrification depends on a creature's ability to shrug off such attacks, like other mind control, once again Meph's minions are well sculpted to deal with that attack.  But if the mythallar empowers her with a automatic casting success, then it would come down to whose mob is bigger.  (ie. She can't petrify everything at one time.)

Empyre thinks up the strangest scenarios sometimes. '<img'>

Herodis has lost her ability to petrify, but the mythal gives her tremendous power. Morag is no push-over, either. Remember, she would have all four words of power at her disposal, and she already had tremendous infleuence while still trapped in the source stone. My point is that it would not be a cakewalk for Meph.

Are you shure?  Meph was bound untill he was ordered to kill the hero of SoU. If he failed in SoU then he woun't be there to be killed. Meph remaines bound. With his power the Walsharess would be no pushover. '<img'>

I vote Heurodis for the simple reason that she's a lich wizard (or sorceress?) with the power of a freaking Mythal and perhaps Netherese magic if given time.

Morag may have the Words of Power but she is still mortal.

The Valsharess is just a mortal Cleric/Blackguard and using the totally risky binding of Mephistopheles. Which would have found a way to unbind himself sooner or later.

You can't trick or keep in chains one of the cunniest creatures in the Realms, forever.
He's not just just a devil, he's an Archdevil, second in power only to Asmodeus himself and Lord of the Eighth.

The Valsharess is literally playing with fire, or should I say Hellfire? '<img'>

If anything happens to Heurodis's Mythal she is SOL. Its all she has unless she finds more or learns magic not dependent on the Mythal.

Morag not only has the Words of Power but knows a lot more magic then Heurodis.

Meph will most likely overthrow the so called 'Great Valsharess' She never did learn what she needed to know to
keep him bound.(Too impatient)

My vote would go to Morag untill Meph unbinds himself.'<img'>
