Sensei Dharvana must die?
« on: December 20, 2010, 04:13:12 pm »

Finally got  back to playing Hordes last night .  When we woke the Sleeping Man (by cutting) the Sensei attacked us and we had to kill her (tried to find another way but couldn't).  It didn't seem like it would have been the only choice but no other option presented itself.
Later, after meeting up with the Knower of Names it turns out that the Sensei was the "One true Love" of the Sleeping Man.  So we ended up killing him when he attacked us for slaying his one true love.
None of this felt right so today I looked online at some walkthroughs.
It does appear that the Sensei gets killed no matter what but the "One True Love" option is random and it was just my bad luck that it was the Sensei Dharvana.
I can' think of any other options that were available at the time.  Am I missing something?

No. I used to reload that part like hell, trying every option, all of them, around the Sleeper's true love.

Spoilers
*
You could even manage to have him fighting by your side for the latest boss combat, where he actually shows himself being talented enough to get rid of "it" on his own, almost.
You just seat & watch...

I felt the same about having no option but to kill her. Wrong.
But I had that feeling all along HotU anyway...

looking through the old forums it looks like the best option is to reload until the Sensei is "NOT" the true love choice.  I'll have to play around with it some as I am not satisfied with the Sensai and the Sleeping Man both dying.

last night I couldn't get the sleeping man to interact until the Sensei was dead.  I must be overlooking something simple but haven't figured it out yet.

Did you pass the wisdom skill check when you first examined the Sleeping Man before entering the portal?  That check changes everything.

There is something about a horn you're supposed to "get" from that cardplayer bard...

I've tried waking him up with the horn and also by the knife.  I didn't realize there's a wisdom check.  Time for an Owl's potion!

Unless you can raise your PC's Wis to at least 15 before interacting with the sleeper, the potions probably won't do the trick.  If your PC is either a druid or UMD user, an Owl's Insight scroll will likely work.  The key boosting problem is that wisdom enchancement is typically only found on an ammy and since the Sensei's ammy must be equipped, invading the sleeper's dreams can be a bit tricky.  Of course, high Wis classes have no problem winning the dream-exploration check.

This is probably the most complex and interesting non-hench convo (albeit somewhat one-sided) within the entire campaign and has provided many possible outcomes with each play-through.  Rather than trying to "force"  results towards any particular direction, I suggest you simply employ the most practical avenue and then adjust your next PC's build/role in a future game if you are disappointed in the way the current one evolved.

Am I the only one that succeeded the skill check and still awaken the Sleeping Man just because I was curious of what he could say? :-P

finally got to play and made it through the wisdom check and no one had to die.  HoU was a good module, now I have to go searching for something to use my way overpowered character in...

Reloading the knower of names dialogue sounded like an easier choice :-P

For the sensei, just save prior to talking to the knower of names.
You can get mutiple ending from just doing this alone, others take a bit more time (like did you turn against the Seer, did you make the Mind Flayers ignore the Valsharess...stuff like that.)

As a side note, its always fun to make Meph a lacky too, but there are many "fun" options to use on him, you just got to have enough gold to get his name.

Check my signature.

And on an off note, since I got time once again, I'm going to be adding more stuff to it.

Things to be included on the future build:

Lot's of Henchman to choose from (can have 4):
-All NPC "henchman" from Balders Gate 2.
-Aribeth in both her Paladin and Blackguard variants as Henchmen
-HotU (non first OC) henchmen as well.

Dragon's of the North: ( Source of Dragons )
Face many of the well known Dragons along the Sword Coast
These are not the "usual" dragons you may have run into, these dragons are truly beasts in their own right, and like any PC they are not always the same each time you face them, as they tend to change "their" gear too.
"A dragon has to do something will all this loot these would be hero's drop"... -Galadaeros

A Portal in time and a journey through the realm of Krynn.
Watch as the Hero's of the Lance face the vile armies of the Dragon Queen and her Draconian minions.
Choose your side, for the land of Krynn is most unforgiving.

And finally, you must also be able to face yourself.

*Probably take me about a month or less to finish.
Have to finish the Dragons and their lairs still, everything else is already finished.
