HCR is it dead?
« on: March 17, 2013, 07:03:15 am »

Hi guys, i've been wanting to know about any HCR servers that are still around. RP is a must and the server must have semi-perma death (raise by dm or player) And/or De-leveling on death or heavy xp loss to where it is possible to de-level on death. A list of servers would be nice. Thanks guys. Long live the elite.<3>

ArgentumRegio uses its own custom scripted systems which many tell us are reminiscent of HRC. Our systems add layers of realism and immersion while being stable and lag free. Come see what can be done with this amazing game engine we call NWN.

Direct Connect to 66.232.100.90   cep2.1 or better required, be sure to run the tutorial area to see fly, swim, climb, jump and much more.

I am/will be running weekly campaigns which will have HCR/permadeath - PM me if you are interested.*

*It will be more RP than action- oriented.

HG has coded deletion on respawn. We also have a strong HC community and a dedicated RP server we're trying to build up some action on. Most of the HC community is NOT RP-oriented, however - fair warning.

Oh my... this was ages ago...

I have something currently in the pipeline which his linked to a PW under construction. It is a more lighthearted fare that what I'd usually go for (at least to begin with) but hopefully much fun for all involved (think of a hybrid between monty python and baldurs gate).

I have a number of other more extensive stories half-written and half-built, which may remain so for the near future due to the chronic lack of time. But I miss doingterriblethingstoPCs  DMing, and really hope to be running something quite soon. '<img'>

I run two servers that use some HCR rules. We also have semi-permadeath... we won't take your character away from you... it's your choice when they die... but we will make it impossible for you to adventure with them anymore.... (DND rules for resurrectoin roll your con or lose a point)

The Virtual World of Mystrix (Very much like a simulation of life)

Original Thain Expanded (hak free)

Both are RP oriented.

Hiya HR,

Been a while, but I have a lot of HC systems I developed for my server, Orlanthia, since those good old days on the HCR forums.  My old computer hard drive recently failed and I need to get a new one installed so I can run the server again. I will be releasing all my the work to the vault as individual addons for any HC server.

Hey there Taino,

I got online and found brand new HD's, got a couple and gonna set up a raid so I don't have to go through this again, hehe. I actually have the development machine back up again and have everything working. I was just waiting till I got the anti virus set up and running before I went back online with it. I just got it done a couple of nights ago and am working on setting up the SVN and forums again. If you go to the address right now you will see the "It Works" returned.....It's ALIVE!!!!!! I have thought about opening up the development and support of HCR again. Sir Elric and Bitwise completed the development of the work nicely before they closed it down, but I thought it would be nice to bring in an external database support for the old girl and add a few more configurable HCR systems to her as well as support for those interested. How's that sound?

Hola KMdS!!

Sounds freaking AWESOME!!

I have several IDE HDs, and a SATA laying around figure I have no use for them at the moment. Also got a IBM Server shut down, which I used for a module I was working [well still am, but its more a on and off project]. Decided to get back to NWN and my module. Plus dabble in scripting some.

I would for sure like to see what you got going on with HCR. If you need any building done, please don't hesitate to ask.

Cheers!

Muchas Gracias Taino!

I look forward to it. I spent last night setting up php on he development machine .  It's been a while since I needed to do that, forgot that it doesn't like to be set up in the Program Files folder. Took me about 4 hours to find my notes on it ''  ''  ''  '<img'>  '<img'>  '<img'>  But it is installed. Now to get the forum site up again and I'll be in business ''  ''  ''

I found I still have Harkinians Henchmen for HCR in my vault. I am wondering what are the best options for adding henchmen to a module. Anyone have ideas as to what my be the best systems out there? How does the standard BW system hold up as compared to them? I am looking to put in a hench system into the HCR and was wondering.

Be careful what you fold into that system. Remember it is "hard core rules" not "everything but the kitchen sink". Often it is best to create systems that are singular, else many builders will have to disable much of what you do as they tend to cherry pick systems rather than take whole suites of stuff they really don't want.

I agree. Basically, any system installation must be disabled as a default setting, but the HCR can be configured to easily merge an HCR designed and configured system through the installation of hooks. Existing third party systems are not configured to the HCR and installation of them works against the idea of the HCR. The development/modification of a few major systems would, I believe, be helpful to the community.

There are a few  basic needs developers may come to desire. A few possibilities for systems configured and modified or designed with the idea of hooking to the HCR are:

  • Henchman to help out with the design of a mods difficulty level and playability whether a pw or solo adventure.

  • An expandable base crafting system for adding entertainment value and the creation of an economy to a pw server.

  • A real persistence system apart from the standard BW Set/GetCampaign methods, possibly configurable to either an external database or player nodrop item.

Proper documentation must be provided to enable installation of any additional systems and they must be set up to work out of the box with the default HCR.
