Bastions of War

Bastions of War is a Neverwinter Nights Team PvP Arena server. BoW is server vault and requires both expansions (Shadows of Undrentide & Hordes of the Underdark).

The two teams are Good and Evil, but class alignment restrictions have been lifted, so Paladins can be Evil, and Assassins can be Good. You start at 28th level and receive XP and gold rewards when your team wins rounds and kills the enemy.

BoW's rules and scripts support fair and balanced PvP. No items with immunity or damage resistance are allowed, and weapon enhancement and AC bonuses are limited. Many spells have been altered to balance and remove exploits, and all spells are Full PvP -- they affect enemies and teammates alike. True Seeing has been changed, so rogues can use stealth, and unlimited-use trap kits are available. Pick Pocket isn't allowed, but you can use Disarm -- weapons are automatically returned to their owner.  NO HAKPAKS NEEDED!

Bastions of War is the oldest team PvP server in all of Neverwinter.  We've been around since before the first expansion (SoU) was released.  Years later we are still going strong.

Currently, we have the most active guild forums.  Thanks to DM Judge Dread, many old-timers and new-comers have taken up the call of war.  Come check out the resurgence of BoW!  Get a glimpse of what it was like in the old days when the server was constantly full at 40/40.

Looking for  awesome team PvP?  The legendary Bastions of War is the place for you.  Come get owned.

I would like to say few things about this server.

Its a good server, my rating is 9.0. Very well scripted, very precisely balanced (on lvl 40), also as an hak-less server its amazing, what developers was able to do with standard visual effects and their combining. A really example for those servers with cep2 and 4gb of custom haks that doesnt even know how to use even standard resources.

If someone would want to try a pvp arena server, I would recommend a BoW. Compared to Antiworld, this is hundret times better.

I played there time from time since BoW start, but I always get flustrated. Because the community there is hostile. The players there don't help a new player in any other way than they kill him with their lvl 40 with maxed gear for no profit just to have a fun and insulting him with messages like "get back to a/w fkn nub and dont cry" or "stfu and keep dying noob".

To more elaborate this issue, I must explain a two basic BoW's definitions:

noob/nub/fkn nub: this is a player that is not any friend of the "profs" and also a player that don't have more than 3 characters with maxxed gear. No matter if he is skilled or not, but let me tell you: if you are not skilled in pvp, just starting this type of game, you have no chance on BoW where plays the most skilled NWN PvP players.
BTW Im still in this category because I played only one character all over the time.

profs/veterans: are players that plays this every day, got dozens and the best characters on server with maxed gear and they are also skilled a lot.

The issue is that when the profs spot that a noob logged in and if they find out that he have a character that can kill them or they are not able to kill him, they counter-log him.
So you will join with a sneaker character and kill one of them, so they counter-log you with a runshooting Arcane Archer that has maxxed spot/listen so you are totally useless against him. As a sneaker your ab is not going over 50 and AA's got between 75-80 ac + they are runshooting anyway just to have a laught of you.

You will join with archer, then they counter-log you with a two hand character with 15+ monk without AC with best AB possible that can overrun you or with caster that will spam icestorms on you.

You will log in as a caster, they will counter-log you with a smiter that can got you down via two, max three hits. Or their caster if they are confident enough to think they will get you in fair fight (mostly they do this only if they know their caster would have a advantage over your caster).

You will log in as a tank, they counterlog you with sneaker, caster or archer...

And over and over again untill you get tired of it or you accept that you mustn't kill any of them which is kinda impossible since they are waiting in the area entrance for some nub to join in order to join the other team where are their friends.

So basically the teams are mostly set as a 3 noobs versus 4 profs.

When there is a 20+ players than the playing there is fine, they wont counterlog anyone since its pointless in such large games, they wont care about one poor sneaker if they must fight against 5 tanks and one caster.

But in smaller games, you will always see the same accounts doing the same crap over an over again. They dont play on teams, they play just for their own ego.

These players really hurts otherwise fine server:unsure:

Anyway. If someone would want to try it nevertheless, then I can give him few advices on build/gear tactic.

Played this game, BoW a dozen years ago. Surprised to find it still after all this time. Got the itch to play again. Is this still possible? I remember Raralith, but I don't recognize the rest. Am hoping BoW isn't dead and I can play it again.
