               Question
If a player comes on to your server, and calls you names, and tells you to f**k off, what is your response?
I inflicted a little damage on this player with our Ritual System (verbal spell casting system)
And he proceeded to try and say that hes gonna close my server down. Like he worked for bioware. Lol

               Dunno who he is.
I dont like banning people - besides.
We cant really ban players now that the master server is gone.

Ban their name - they pick a random one, and login.
Ban the cdkey, they generate a random one - and get in
Ban the ip - they wait a few days, or use a proxy, they get in.

Its better to discourage them, by making it no longer fun for them to visit.
If they find that their rants have no effect, then they will give up, and move on elsewhere.

In the past, I have even scripted cutscenes to trigger when people like this join the server, where they get locked up in a cell, and tortured - Jon Irenicus Style from BG 2.

In online parlance that is what is called a "troll", a chaotic-evil negative-attention-seeking-mental-parasite.

(Negative energy being the favorite type of attenion for such psionic-vampires to feed upon...)

As much fun as it is to pick on such apparently low and pathetic creatures,
thier secret power is that any attention only makes them grow stronger...

Check his ip - if it's in China, I know who he is. We banned him a few days ago. While you're somewhat right about not being able to perma-ban, you can, if you're binding playernames to cd keys on your side, make the costs of playing absurdly high for them. This was the second time wed banned him. The first, he made a new account on a new key the very next day. We let him play for another month or so, then, when complaints about his behavior started to emerge again, we re-banned him. Month of play, wasted. '<img'>
