Not able to log in with DM client
« on: June 26, 2011, 08:31:13 pm »

I am recently not able to log in with DM client. The starting area loads to about 80% but then freezes and I time out.
After doing some searching I think it might be due to some sort of limit on the DM placeables or something. Some posts described a 16,000 limit or something.
If this is indeed the case, how can I clear some reasources to make things right again?

Every post that might have been helpful links back to the Bioware main site where there is no longer and NWN support.

The 16K limit is on the total number of objects in your module, to see how many are in yours, open the module in your toolkit, and then use mycomputer/ms-explorer to view the contents of the c:\\neverwinternights\\NWN\\modules\\temp0 folder .... you can do a CTRL+A to select all, windows will tell you how many files, this is the number you are looking for... if more than 16k, you need to move some into a HAK.

Be well. Game on.

               Thnx ODA,
When you say objects, do you mean in the pallette or objects that are actually placed in the module?

You can count module resources simply by opening the module in the toolset, then opening your Main NWN folder, then opening the modules folder there. Look for the "Temp 0" and just right click and choose properties. whatever the number of files shown their is your module's resource count and likely equal to what you found.

Pallette items are calculated differently though. Bioware, CEP and other Haks containing blueprints along with anything custom you've created are what's counted for pallette sizes.

Post your hak list as if you use CEP and some other haks, they grossly inflate your pallettes.

I am under the impression that the 16 k limit applies to a stable module (for both players and DM's alike). I am actually experiencing the same issue (DM client crashing) with my PW, and definitely suppect the DM pallet at this time. FunkySwerve pointed me to a nwnx plugin called resman, that may be able to resolve this, but I have yet to set it up and try it out..... (it's on the to do list amoungst 100 other things lol.) nwnx.org under the downloads section is where you find it though, and there are some posts on there too about it. I definitely would be interested in comparing notes if it works for you or you find some other solution.

It'll depend on how many resources and areas, etc... your module has (besides things on the pallettes), but ... DMs are generally affected first and the pallettes can inflate a bit beyond before players also have issues. Exceeding the resource limits will affect both though.

1) If you use the CEP and have included the cep2_build.hak, remove it from the hosted version. Its not needed (unless by chance you used something from it that is created via a script).

2) As a general rule, triggers, waypoints, encounters, doors and sounds can all be removed from the hosted version unless by chance one of them is created via a script.

If your DM Avatar has a lot of gold on them and you are using the crap coin system, That will also cause DM crashes.
