Hello,

I'd like to introduce a new project I'm sneakily working on, and I would take this opportunity here to also gauge interest in it.

Please excuse the brevity - I do not want you to have to tl;dr it. '<img'>

The name of the beast is WinterShards(.net), and it will be a "turn-key" NWN1 server setup solution that does not leave wanting.

It will be a service offering that is as easy to set up as it could ever be. Download nwnx plugin, input API key, done.

It's aimed mainly at new server admins, because it is very opinionated in how it works and what kind of enviroment it is meant for.

So what will it do? Highlights:

  • FWN, a web-based collaborative module building tool. You can see a early variant of it running here.

  • a remote character vault, that will allow seamless transitions between supporting servers, including a kick-ass UI for players to manage, edit, delete, portrait-upload, etc

  • a service that allows linking servers into groups, exchanging scripted messages between them in realtime, as well as sharing access/ban lists

  • proper authentication for player-to-server, finally replacing the defunct bioware authentication masterservers

  • a downloads utility with a very nice UI for new players to get started on your server, as well as a properly set-up nwncx to provide new features

  • full privacy controls for players and server owners

There are, of course, many more ideas waiting to be fleshed out - like community integration into nwvault.org, 3rd party APIs integration, and later on even full-stack hosting through automated provisioning (if demand warrants) ..

The point of it is to offer it in one pick-and-choose seamless service package that requires no further effort to set up. (Needless to say, it will receive professional hosting in multiple locations).

Please let me know what you think, and if any of this would be of interest to you as someone who wants to start a new PW, or maybe liven up a existing one!

See wintershards.net for more technical information (also very much work in progress).

Cheers

niv
