Avernostra is a city in distress. Located on the largest isle of an archipelago the grand city of Avernostra has been destroyed, rebuilt, renamed, and restored through time. The mainland has found disaster. An angel has fallen from heaven, and he has taken with him a truly demonic horde. As the world battles against the apocalypse those who have no place in it have fled to Avernostra. The city that never truly dies. Normally containing a population of over half a million people the surge of refugees have swelled the population to nearly two million! Food is scarce, and what was already a dangerous city is rife with crime and fear.


The city of Avernostra is a Dark Fantasy setting. Since Neverwinter Nights is a high fantasy game, and Avernostra is designed to have a more Sword and Sorcery feeling there are some liberties with the SaS template that have been made. Witches, Magicians, Priests, and Shamans are available for play to replace the Sorcerer, Wizard, Cleric, and Druid classes of High Fantasy. Magic is the world of demons. Creatures from another world. Thus all magic comes from a wicked and evil source. Of course whether the magicians, witches, and others are using that power for wicked means are up to the player. Firearms have replaced crossbows, but the old bow and arrow is still used by some people. Simple technology similar to that used in turn of the 20th century is fairly common. Races such as Elves, Dwarves, and the like are repurposed to be different forms of human beings mutated through magic or weird science. By far human is the most common. Other races are degenerate monsters at worst, and pitiful creatures with wicked intent at best.


Avernostra is an adult server. That means adult content is available for use on the server. This isn't a social server though, and players are encouraged to use the materials appropriately. This also means that you need to be of legal age in your country to view adult materials to log into Avernostra. I can't expect to be able to age check everyone, but if I discover the truth you will be banned. 


 


In addition Avernostra is also in heavy development, but it currently in a playable state. Come join the fun if you like!

 

 
HOW TO JOIN?

 

Avernostra is a PW for the game Neverwinter Nights. It is an adult roleplaying server, and has a small but fairly active player base. If you are interested in joining you are welcome to. Firstly you need a copy of Neverwinter Nights and all the expansion packs. You can find full instructions HERE to getting NWN and everything you will need to start playing in multiplayer. The following instructions are for Avernostra specifically. Note: If you use the GOG.com version, or the Diamond edition of NWN you will want to download and install the Critical Rebuild.


It is optional, but highly recommended that you download and install the Neverwinter Nights Client Extender, or NWNCX. Avernostra utilizes custom 2da files that change the base classes that you play. If you do not have NWNCX installed you will miss out on some of the bonuses that are given to 1st level players.


You will need to download the Hak Files, and the TLK that are specific for Avernostra. These must be installed to your NWN directory in the hak folder, and the tlk folder, respectively.


You do not *require*, but it is highly recommended to download the Community Music Pack. Many areas of Avernostra use music from this pack, and without it you will not be able to hear the background music. All the BMU files must be in your music folder in the NWN directory to work. You do not require the CMP hak. You may also want to pick up the custom Avernostra Music Pack


 


SERVER FEATURES?


A small list of some of the many server features. Many of which are growing.

 


  • Non-Combat XP - Experience is granted slowly over time just for being logged into the server. Additionally players are allowed to occasionally gift experience to other players. Not a single person is required to actively play an adventurer in order to see character progression.

  • Alchemy - Avernostra uses an in-house alchemy system that is expanding all the time. All players are capable of crafting healing tonics, physical mutagens, and medical kits. Skill is based or either the Lore or the Heal skill.

  • Player Housing - Players who spend a good amount of time on the server have an option to purchase player housing. The player base as of right now is small enough that we allow custom made housing using our builder module to be implemented. Player population may change that in the future, so get in while you have the chance!

  • Name and Description modification - Players are granted a small tool logging in that allows them to change their item names and descriptions. You can also alter your own description at any time.

  • Combat Style Animation - Implemented through Project Q, the ACP animations are fully available to players. A few additional animation phenotypes are also available through the Avernostra Menu.

  • Armored Casters - Avernostra uses a new category of armors, the Ultralight armors. These are your padded and leather, AC1 and AC2 armors respectively. Both of these armor types have no spell failure chance and can be used by arcane casters freely. Witches and Magicians do not receive armor proficiency for free, but bards do.

  • Class changes - In addition to the name changes Avernostra also uses Pathfinder-like rules for base classes. WItches and Magicians both get d6 Hit Die, Rogues and Bards a d8. The ranger also has a d10 hit die. More information is available on the forums.

  • Crime and Justice - Currently being tested and worked on, the Crime and Justice system allows rogues to pickpocket random commoners and nobles through the dialog tree without needing the Pick Pocket skill used in NWN. Rogues who are caught may be imprisoned for up to 5 in game minutes for their crime, and stripped of their gold. Infiltration, breaking and entering, and other thief like activities are still in the works.

  • Bounty Hunting - The Red Raven's provide bounty hunting services for the city of Avernostra. Make a fortune hunting down and killing men.

  • Appearance Modification - Players need no overrides or special 2da files to access character appearances. Appearance modification is available in the player starting area.

  • Lycanthropy - Players have access to a be infected by Lycanthropy and live life as a werewolf.

All magic is evil? So your priests are all bad guys than? That kind of sucks. Is there a way to gain xp through combat at all? What are the rest restrictions like?

Avernostra is designed with a sword and sorcery-esque style, and not high fantasy. As such magic is a mystical force that is inherently evil, even though not all magical users themselves necessarily are. Magic users such as witches, magicians, and priests frighten the average person and for very good reason. Only the Shaman really does not derive their powers from contact with evil beings and demons, however the shamans barbaric ways heavily clash with civilized society and rarely does anyone know, or care about the difference.


 


Of course combat XP is there, it simply isn't a necessity for players to be 'Adventurers' plowing through dungeons in order to see character growth.


 


Rest restrictions are simple. Visiting beds allows you to rest, and if you need to rest in the wild or in dangerous areas a simple bedroll will suffice. Avernostra does not have food or drink restrictions, or any kind of Hunger Thirst Fatigue system. That minutiae is left to players to roleplay.

An incredible project, in a sort of perfect commingling of Vampires The Dark Ages and Vampire: Victorian Age, for the atmosphere and the beautiful background. Also the books like Carmilla, The Vampyre (by Polidori), Melmoth the Wanderer and (for many reasons) the Carlos Ruiz Zafòn's works.

I think you have to try this server at least once time. '<img'>

Seriously, being the only builder on here (only three areas on the server have had any hands in it except my own) and the attention to detail I try to give makes server growth much slower than I would like, but I like to think the quality outstrips the quantity.
