               Netheril Rising: A Neverwinter Nights Persistent World

Wanted, Role-Players! The Netheril Rising server would like to invite you to partake in a role-playing experience like few others. Netheril Rising is a free and persistent server that utilizes the Neverwinter Nights I game engine to tell a detailed, continually evolving, and in depth story arc. Set in a customized edition of the Forgotten Realms Campaign and using the Dungeons and Dragons rules; Netheril Rising is set in antiquity and focused upon the powerful Empire of Netheril. Below are both an explanation of everything you need to know to get started, and some in-depth details on the Netheril Rising server itself. Come Join the Fun!

darkness even here creeps in. Rumours of dark cults spread through the streets,

And to make matters worse a new castle floats just of the horizon literally appearing
overnight. In the low lands of the empire beat the drums of war. Barbarian
raiders are growing bolder and stronger putting strain on those that protect
the frontiers. For now the militia hold the line, but for how long? And why
this sudden change in the tribes of the outlands? All the while the political
games are played out all over the city as houses and guild vie for greater control
and more power.”

               â€œThe majestic city of Valstiir, floating above these lands; the Netherese are ever content to live in ignorance of those below. But they do so at their own peril, for it is the lands below that supply not only meat and grain for their stock-holds, but materials to build the very homes they shelter themselves in.  It is undoubtedly these lower lands that support the Floating Gargantuan above and all is not well in these untamed lands.

Hadrian sits as a perfect example of lower Netheril life, perched on what is claimed as the “Netherese Frontier”. This town is resilient, and it’s people more so. But barbaric hordes lie within the surrounding plains and mountains making life a short and brutal affair for many leaving Hadrian’s palisade walls.

West of the frontier town, fierce goblins amass within a decrepit fort, constant raids and skirmishes upon their settlement from adventuring folk and armed frontiersmen have not slowed their population, nor thirst for blood. Hadrian’s Imperial force is undermanned and spread thin; defense outside of the town’s own walls is simply not an option.

Taking advantage of this defensive stalemate, savage orcs stir across the river. The unnerving sounds of war drums haunt the residents throughout the nights. Had the orcs one strong and willful enough to lead them, death and war would surely follow, and Hadrian would be swallowed in a sea of blood and fire.

If not of enough concern, a perpetual green and poisonous fog has settled across the nearby Marshlands to the East, local farmers and tavern-folk claim that at night, the hazed light of campfires can be spotted throughout the noxious fog, accompanied with the sounds of scraping, digging and cursing, only to have been extinguished by dawn’s break...”
