I grew up an artist. I used to draw, paint, and throw pots. I also used to make music (on a myriad of instruments). The last year of my life (actually more, but only started hosting a year ago or so) I have thrown myself into a PW and I have been wondering why… what is it about it that attracts me? What is it about it that inspires me? Of course as a gamer I have my own motivations, I have a particular niche of gaming I enjoy, action, customizations, and an unlimited aspect. But as an artist is it about the pallet.
No… I am not speaking of the DM pallet in NWN, but rather the game and open source nature of it. Of course, being an action fan, I love action mods like the mod I have been hosting which I fell in love with over 9 years ago, and have now become the host/owner of.
But after seeing some of what the other “artists†have produced with the NWN 1 pallet due to the NWPAD event, I have been blown away. The role playing realms, the story realms, (not to mention the action realms, and I am sure others), despite using over a 10 year old game engine, use an engine which allows more versatility and customizability to the modder(s) than I have ever experienced… (oh and yeah I have been a gamer for quite a while, single player Oblivion, and Fo3 are still off the charts, but multi player… although over 10 years old now, I have not seen anything touch NWN 1.)
So to me, given the incredible things people can do with NWN 1 PWs… what is a PW? To me? It is a work of art. It is an unprecedented multiplayer experience that I have found no parallel with. I am sure it will be surpassed one day, but given it is over 10 years old now, wow… and free to play for players (compared to the WoW scam….) LOL, what can I say… Thank you bioware, and cheers to all you nwn 1’ers out there.
