I only want to know what is going on, how do I fix things?
« on: July 05, 2011, 12:50:37 pm »

"Hosted by Gamespy" is the logo appearing at the
top of my page when I log onto a NWN Multiplayer game.

This tells me NWN1 has to know who Gamespy is and Gamespy has to know who NWN1 is.

When I log in now,
it pauses for a long time on "Authorizing Player Name" and finally
comes up with "Could not connect to Master Server, some multiplayer
services may not be available".

This has been happening ever since the hak into of the old NWN Legacy Servers.  Coincidence?  Maybe.

I made a post to the Gamespy forum and asked:  "I
play NWN1 and go to Multiplayer with is hosted by Gamespy but lately it
will not authorize accounts of characters.  When will the
gameserver be reset and/or fixed please?"

The reply post I received:  "GameSpyArcade
unfortunately no longer has any support. I would suggest contacting the
makers of your game for any suggestions. Thanks."

Guess who the maker of the game is?  Ok, on the Bioware Forum I posted a question inquiring about the relationship between NWN Vault,  Gamespy, Bioware, and Atari,

The reply post I received:

"We are not associated with NwN Vault or Gamespy,
except that they have content there based on our past games. They are run by
their respective companies (as far as I know)."

Hmmm?  Past Games? Legacy Servers? No longer has support? The fact that Bioware Forums does not include NWN1 or NWN2 as an option to list for My Games?  Is NWN1 and NWN2 considered past games?

What the X is going on, can someone please be honest here and explain things to me, maybe I need a bit of hand holding here, I just don't understand why my NWN1 Multiplayer accounts no longer authorize.  All my characters can get cleaned by anyone, and they can use anything they want as a password. ''

Might want to trim out the html headers in your note...

Yes, NWN was declared end-of-life a few years ago.

Gamespy provides a lobbying service for NWN servers and that's the extent of their involvement.  Authentication services have always been handled by Bioware's "Master Server" (nwmaster.bioware.com).  That has been down since June 29th.

Following a brief outage of the service there was a post about it being down.  But by the time that post went up, the Master Server was operational again until the 29th.  No further official word has been added to that thread.

I don't know why my post showed like that, I did not add any html headers in the post, I don't know how even.

And no, it is not operational again, it is not moot, it still occurs, I cannot be authorized, and I do not know why any Tom, Dick and Harry can view my characters.  I only want to know how to fix this, what can I do?  Each side says go ask the other about it, and neither claims any responsibility.  Crap if I handled my job like that I would be fired.

ObDisclaimer: I am neither employed by or affliated with Hasbro, WotC, TSR, Atari, Bioware, EA or GameSpy (did I miss any?)  I help operate the Avlis servers.

There were two outages in June.  It has not returned from the 2nd one at least not when I checked this morning.

The behavior you describe is what happens when the "Master Server Authentication Required For Player Login" option in the [Server Options] section of nwplayer.ini  is turned off.  That setting is under control of your server operator.

Is this a server that you run?

Smart man, I like you, and thank you for your reply.  No I don't run any gaming servers, I'm only a lowly user who has no control over anything, next step up from a slave I imagine '<img'>

BTW, the odd stuff in your first post is common to posts created by copying text from the forum into a word-processing program and/or then pasting it back into the WYSIWYG editor or Quick Reply pane. Though this forum software is a bit finicky, you can usually avoid that effect by using a plain text editor for editing or by posting your word-processed posts into the reply window when it is in "BBCode" mode.

ok, I figured it out and fixed the extra odd stuff, see how nice I am?

I wish that some folks  *looks upwards twidling thumbs*  could quite blaming each other and stop with the "not our responsibility" type bullshi*.

Hey try out this phone number I got from EA Support to reach Atari for registering my games I have CD Keys for: 425-398-3063  Yep, I checked with operator, it's an invalid phone line.

Edit:  My "looks upwards" was meant figuratively and not meant to point to any one person or company, and I am truly sorry if anyone took this insulting.  You can leave that out of the sentence entirely amd you can see the frustration of what I meant to convey perhaps more clearly.
