Forum Data Recovery?
« on: June 18, 2011, 07:03:08 pm »

As many of you know, recently bioware has shutdown and closed the old nwn forums after it being officially closed for roughly 11 months.  The time alloted after the Official close did give the communities a chance to properly pack up and move.

That said, not all communities did that. One in particular was "Narc's Adventure Games: DnD 3.5  chapter 2 Bonds of Blood"  First off, id like to say yes, i am aware of the foolishness in the oversight and to clarify, yes it still is a very active and hard working community of DM's and Players alike. It was due to our admin oversight that we had not moved. I suppose the forum admin believed the forums were still working and would remain such, or perhaps they simply did not have the time to backup the years of content.

So, i need to know if its possible to retrieve the forum data lost from those forums. Who would i contact for such a request ?  How would they have to go about it and is there any help anyone can offer the community in retrieving the years of information.  A large part of the forums contained not only years of work, reports, records and resources but also contained a large vault of irreplaceable RP Content.

We have already begun starting our new forums but if there is even the slightest chance to recover even a tiny bit of the data lost on the old forums it would beinifit us greatly and the community would be forever thankful.

Humbly requesting aid,
 DM Swulf.

From other postings, I believe the legacy forums will be back once Bioware completes is security fixes related to the recent hacker attack.  Thus, you should be able to access, and back up, your forum once that occurs.

Another option for recovery.... You could try googling your old forums and see if you can recover them from cached copies.

The moral of the story is, it's always wise to have backups of your posted stuff, either an offline archive - updated periodically, or a second site serving as a mirror for your primary one.

Good luck,

Karvon
