Looking for Warhammer based or inspired PW rpg servers

               Been playing NWN PW for a good couple years and while I'm pretty satisfied on my current server, after reading about the now defunct WH based ones I'm  itching for that kind of grim fantasy roleplay.

I'm also interested in SP modules based in the WH setting, the NWNWAULT doesn't seem to have any.

I know of no active Warhammer PWs.

That's a great list overall by the way, but unfortunately most of those mods are either very poorly done or unfinished.

The other aspects would go with it-since WH is typically low-magic, thrives on pvp and (among my favorite things) dwarves are taken seriously there and are an extremely viable part of the world. I never felt like FR lore really gave dwarves enough opportunity to stand on their own and really be appreciated.

Would you care to elaborate on just how dwarves cannot stand alone and be appreciated? I can think of a good half dozen PWs off the top of my head that would dispute this ... though what you think it means would help alot.

I think dwarves in FR are expected to fall into two camps-act like a bumbling drunken barbarian buffoon (aka Thibbledorf Pwent since that's the average NWN player's example) or a slightly less bumbling but still 'comedic relief' type like Bruenor Battlehammer or any of Salvatores 'brilliant' other examples of dwarf stereotypes.



I mean, very few folks have read Dwarves Deep or Races of STone (and that's two of the only DnD books that even look at them)supplements out there to better acquaint themselves with the stoic nobility and honor that dwarves are known to have. I probably expect too much from the average NWNer.



I've played in dwarf factions of varying sizes on a couple of servers of (in fact I know you) and it doesn't matter what they do or how important to the overall impact they are, people still expect them to act like drunk human barbarians or seem surprised when they're roleplayed as standing up for and representing themselves with the stoic nobility and grace they possess.



Warhammer on the other hand, from my experience with both the WFRP and the tabletop game as well as the hundreds of pages of lore and errata, maintains the tradition established by Tolkien. Yes dwarves love ale and they love gold (though to be honest its more the beauty of craft and what gold can bring than just gold itself) but they're also the finest craftspeople in the world they inhabit. They're widely respected for their resolve and military prowess in the face of absolute death.They're the first and last line of defense against incursions of the grimmest evils.



Here's the difference in a nutshell of WH dwarves and FR dwarves-RA Salvatore does not write for the Black Library, as such no one can read his idea of dwarf stereotypes and try to apply them to the noble WH dwarves.

Way way back when I played there was two Stouts named Guldar Caverholme and Helgrin Granitesoul who feel your pain in ways you do not know.

Everyone seems to think of us Stouts as simply battleragers who do not bathe rather than the proud noble race who, just as any other race, have our own quirks and such like. Salavatore did a total disservice to Forgotten Realms though I think it was totally by accident that later on he tried to rectify with his later books.

His two glaring mistakes was making Drizzit and then the aforementioned slight to the noble race of the Stone. I can forgive him for Drizzit though not the 1000s that want to play good drow now but his view of Stouts is shocking.

A better example I think is found in the Twins Novels from Dragonlance with Kharas and the less than noble Stout whose name escapes me. Both were prime examples of true Stouts in my book.

Playing a Stout is harder than most people think and I too have seen many folks fall into the two groups you have laid out. I agree it is hard to find a good group to play Stouts with and while we have a few Stouts and all our upper echelon plays Stouts for some reason on our PW most of our world is unfortunately elves.

I know of no Stout centered server though I do humbly submit that we are opening up Mithral Hall before Christmas and I am hoping to have more Stouts around for that. True Stouts. I also know another server is being done now that is based in Sundabar and I think they will have some pretty good stuff for Stouts as well.

               I also agree that most players stereotype dwarves and put little effort into accurately protraying them, at least "source wise" when it comes to an FR PW. I see it in games like WoW and even on Krynn or LotR PWs though too. The problem becomes, just how much should an Admin or DM interfere or correct a player when it comes to RP? I suspect that even if there were a War Hammer PW or two out there that they'd shortly succumb to the same silliness seen most eslewhere. While many that play NWN have roots in some sort of PnP gaming system(s), its my experience that the majority don't or have only limited exposure to such. The majority tends to draw inspiration from novels, movies, cartoons, comics and what they see others doing. It's not just dwarves in NWN that I think are too often played without imagination and based on poor stereo types, its hins (haflings), elves and the rest.



In the end, the best most of us can do is find folk that are like minded to ourselves or at least find some that don't annoy us too baddly '>
