Mount System
« on: August 28, 2013, 12:12:42 am »

               Having just gotten back into this, I am sadly, very ignorant of how the mount system functions.  Basically, I created a mount and got it to set the ghostly visage effect, but when you mount it, it changes to a mounted horse with no affect.

Is there a way to make the mount continue to appear ghostly once a character gets on it?

               I think I see what needs to happen, but if anyone could verify, it would probably help.

Looks like I have to create a second version of the horse, perhaps using a mounted template?

Then I have to go in to xp3_inc_horse (whatever it is) and place support scripting in there for my new mount?

               <ghosting through...>

Mounts are actually implemented as tails.
So when you apply the effect to the horse (a creature object) and then mount it, the "mount" action takes the PC model, switches it to the riding pheno (legs up and apart) and attaches a horse-shaped tail to the PC model. That tail may *look* the same as the creature, but it is a completely different model. And you effect was on the creature.

Possible solution... only thing I can think of is either apply the effect to the rider (and his tail) or create a ghosted mount (tail) for the switch.

<...on his way elsewhere>

               Proleric wrote a guide to the Bioware mount system. You'll also want to pick up TheKrit's Alternate Horse system - a drastic improvement to the Bioware system.

Proleric's Guide
Alternate Horse System

The version of Proleric's Guide in the 1.69 Lexicon might have been updated - not certain as I've never compared the two.

AHS is an essential download as far as I'm concerned. It greatly improves load time and the animations and makes the mount system run much smoother in comparison to what was packaged with the 1.69 patch.

In relation to your question - if you apply a visual effect to the rider, since the mount is a tail, the mount will also receive the visual effect.

               Thanks for the responses, I think I'm gonna go ahead and pass on this for the time being, it seems more hassle than it's worth just to have a ghostly visage type mount. Fact is, I've got much more time intensive and necessary stuff to work on in this module and I can't see wasting time on it right now lol.
