What is the best guide to learn to make cutscenes?
« on: April 25, 2012, 06:56:44 am »

I'm becoming fairly competent at the toolset.. but I use a illiac's script generator for most of my scripts. I'm not really much for a scripter, I'm far more into designing the areas and dialogue. For the most part, illiac's script generator has helped a lot. Of course, due to its limitations I've had to make my own changes to the script.

One thing that is extremely limited in is cutscenes. So I guess I'm just going to learn how to make good cutscenes won't I? I know google could find my answer quite possibly... but I am looking for what the community believes, to be the best and most accessible guide.

I too use Lilacs script generator, and although capable of dabbling with script, I just find it easier to have Lilac create the basic bones then fine tune it to my needs, mainly because I have a dreadful memory so pull down menus reveal options I forget '<img'>

With the above in mind, I took the plunge with my last module and wanted to include some cutscenes.  I managed to pull it off using Gestalts cutscene system available here -> http://nwvault.ign.c....detail&id=2570

What I found particularly useful is the accompanying documentation.  I did have to experiment a little to get what I wanted, but a little perseverance paid off.

What Quillmaster said. Download and use Gestalt's Cutscene System, read the documentation it comes with, and play around with it to get the hang of it. There's no better way to do or learn cutscene writing in NWN1.
