"Targeted" or merely affected?  Many AoE spells SHOULD harm all creatures & bashable placeables/doors within range including NPCs & party members unless scripted otherwise, with or without True Seeing, but would need to guess correctly on the sensor's location without it.

improved invisibility effect is closest to this, the imp. invis won't disappear after attack, but see invis/TS will penetrate it, also creatures with TS/see invis wont get 50% concealment against the creature with ii

Yes, it seems that those effects were created only for better visual experience. Ie monsters will still attack creature with cutscene invisibility (though players can't see it).

Looks like I'll need etherealness still or soemthing like it for the NPC side of things.
