Dragon Age style 'Tactics' for companions
« on: January 21, 2011, 11:38:58 am »

I've had a little experience modding aurora engine games, yet my experience with scripting is rather limited, so I thought I'd ask here before I attempted this.

I am hoping to make a hak which will add something that resembles the 'Tactics' system for Dragon Age: Origins to NWN, to allow you to dictate what actions your companions take under specific circumstances.  I assume that if this were possible it would be done as a script.  If I cannot create a menu for it then it could be run off a scroll or summonable NPC.

Would this be possible?
Does anyone have any advice on how to achieve this?

Making a good AI for followers is hard to do because you have to choose between randomness of actions (like spells casting or choice of target) and the efficiency of the system.

And if everything is scripted without randomness, your followers will be so predictable that they won't be a threat anymore.
