While messing about with 7zip I found out that it can extract files from the pk3 data files that LucasArts used for their Jedi Knight series of FPS games. While browsing these files, I found the models and their associated tetures. The only trouble is that the format of the models is md3. So I went searching on google for a plug-in/script that would allow import into GMax. To cut a long storey short I eventually stumbled on this page -> Chris Cookson GMAX and 3d max plugins/scripts.

As I type this I haven't actually downloaded or tried any of them or if the md3 importer I spied on there will actually work with the JK files, but I thought I would post the link while I had it open in Opera (ie before I forgot  '' ).

Hope this is of use to somebody.

I changed all the Jedi Academy Models I used for NWN into 3ds with Milkshape (and gmax imports 3ds quite happily all on its own).

If you're trying to do anything with models from those games, Milkshape's a good middle step. Works very well for quite a few other formats too. Very simple to just import "X" format and export as 3ds.

PS:- I've been using the updated OBJ. importer script (ver1.1a) on that list for a little while and it works well. (For some reason the mesh is invisible when you first import an OBJ. but save it to an Aurora base and then reload it and it's all there fine - and visible).

Milkshape is shareware and I can never remember my paypal password (and the damned thing will not allow you to paste a lovely (but forgetable) complex one).

I found that some of the models are in ghoul 2 (glm and gla) format and there is no importer for gmax. Fortunately there is one for blender here. Also there is a package of scripts (mostly Max though) on the new vault here.
