Hi everyone, I am new to the forums but not to the game. I have had it ever since it came out! Shamefully since I have returned I noticed that the NWVault.ign.com is no longer available to me. I need some serious dire advice and help as to what I should do for my steps to creating my persistant world action module! The first thing I would like to discuss is what I would like for custom content. Please put me to consideration. I dont have any requests as far as creating new custom content, but I definitally don't want to be missing anything! cool hakpaks and models that have been released in the past I no longer dont know how to reach. Can the survivors and strong willed who made it through the storm of NWvault dying please contribute or give information as to how I could do a good job of hunting down custom content? New and old content alike? I really want to be able to know what it is I will be adding to my module so please provide me with what you would like me to have added or what the people reccomend. Before you go off telling me what to add please keep in consideration that I am absolutely positive I will be using the latest version of the PRC. I also want to use the latest of the ACP aswell. I really love these 2 hak paks and anything that is uncompatable I would ask and really appreciate it if someone could tell me if it is possible to make things work together and become compatable. I am not very experienced in that and I would love some assistance. I am even willing to pay someone to help me through this long disturbance I have to get through before building. Please no advice telling me to use little hakpaks as possible. That is really not my goal here. I really do want a super large custom content server. Any hakpaks changing feats, spells, classes, skills, I do not want because I will already be using the PRC. The things I do want is cool new item graphics, creatures, tilesets, placeables, armors, skyboxes, the works! I am really motivated to work hard but this is really slowing me down. As I am a builder not a hak mesher or compatability maker so like I said I am willing to pay someone who can help me out.

The next thing I need help with is that I have recently discovered the CEP 2.5 has been released? Can someone please give me the detailed list or documentation that CEP 2.5 added? And what is to come for CEP 2.6 and when they plan to release it? I already looked around and couldnt find anything about it.

There is so much I wish to share about my documents I have been writing for my PRC module, but I dont want to list anything on the forums yet because I dont want to get peoples hopes up in case noone wants to help me. All I will say is that it will be a survival action server. You wont be required to eat or drink, but you will need to find safe zones and take over strongholds and defend them in order to live or plan to move on to the next quest or area. I plan to have creatures much more strategic and smarter then the standard AI. I plan to have the fights be strategically done by the environment, abilities, and creature AI. Creatures will use skills like for example stealth when necessary to land sneak attacks on players, and special creature abilities will be used at a good base of timing. Traps will be around too to make movement less free for all and more planned aswell. So far my favorite feature I am planning is the strongholds. Strongholds are the bases you want to keep from being overrun. Every city every castle is a stronghold and can be over run by the NPC creatures. Each stronghold will have different bonuses and assets for the player to obtain. Whenever a party or player takes over a stronghold, they get quests when the stronghold is obtained, the shops open up, and more. If a player that is not in your party and wants to visit the stronghold that a party of players took over. It is up to the owners to allow to grant him access into the stronghold or not. They can pay a fee or do a trade, or come in for free. It is not always a bad idea to let players in for free, because they can sell good loot to the merchants, and help you defend it in case it gets attacked. Also for every time a player sells something in your stronghold you gain 50% of the gold to whatever gets sold. I hope you guys like my idea and are encouraged to help me! I hope to hear from everyone as soon as possible. So I can stop writing things on paper and actually get to building!

- Your new friend, Ben.

Well, the old vault content is archived here

http://neverwintervault.org/

In terms of custom content, personally I would start with either CEP or Project Q (they're not mutually compatible right now). There is no CEP 2.5 (like the Monty Python joke, but true), so if you go that way, I'd install 2.4 and upgrade to 2.6 when it's released.

For a truly comprehensive list, see

http://forum.bioware...-nwn-community/

Obviously, it would be way over the top to do all of that, and everyone here could quibble with the OP's recommendations, but worth taking a quick look at everything to decide what rocks your boat. Links to the old vault are dead, but you can find mainstream stuff like that on the new vault by text search. If you don't see it, ask, as we are still migrating.

I know I'm not answering all of your questions, but the journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step. Best to ask one question at a time, I find.

P.S. Can any of the PW owners recommend a tutorial on how to set one up?

Genisys modules, simple and straight forward. problem though with that is all his content was on the old vault  '<img'>

otherwise Rhun is a good place to start. i learned about PW building from Rhun Modules. It has several good scripts in it, even to this day. I got started about 6 years ago building, but its only just now have i managed to start releasing any content.

a good advice is custom content goes a long way to building a world of any kind. a good start with that is learning how to work with 2da files and merging, as well as texture reskins. Id start there first

Shameless self-promotion...

Ben, Project Q - links in my sig - works with the PRC and contains the ACP 4.0 as part of its core content. In addition, Q offers a boatload of high quality custom content that really changes and improves the way the game looks. The whole idea behind Q is to improve the art assets of the original game and expand what is available through the addition of custom content. To this end, Q uses a limited palette of colors inspired by the Castle Exterior tileset (TNO) - thus, ALL of the content looks like it belongs together.

Project Q offers...

  • Compatibility with the PRC - some limited 2da merging may be required

  • Compatibility with the CPP (Community Patch) - some limited 2da merging may be required

  • Good assortment of custom phenotypes - including the ACP

  • Dynamic Centaurs (with horse bodies)

  • Clothing options nearly as large as those found in CEP

  • Overriding content for outdated BioWare models and textures

  • Several custom tilesets

  • Expanded versions of BioWare tilesets (especially the TNO set)

  • Custom Content not available elsewhere

  • Integrated CC by some of the most popular CC authors (CODI, DLA, NWN Baba Yaga, Lord Sullivan, Lord of Worms, Sixesthrice, and TomBanjo)

  • An automatic updater that keeps Project Q updated with the latest bugfixes and additions

  • Full backwards compatibility with previous versions of Q (i.e. a module built with Q v1.0 will work with a module built using Q v2.0)

  • Modular design - use only those parts of Q that you want. Each Q hak is designed to be used independently of the other Q haks; although some do require that other haks be attached to the module or the creation of a custom tophak that houses the necessary 2da files.

  • A Project Leader - myself - that is more than willing to help customize Q to meet specific PW needs, be that adding specific content to Q, creating PW specific content, reserving 2da space, or helping with content merging.

  • Lastly - Project Q is OPEN SOURCE. Q belongs to the NWN Community - feel free to modify/use it however you want.

You should definately try the complete package of ProjectQ out first. How great the content of it is out of question, it is. Probably the best part is that almost everything has the same feel to it and stuff is professionaly done.

There are many other things to consider, little gems for everyones taste but for a good overview and base to begin with, PQ!
