Tileset help: duplicating a tile

I'm dipping my toes in the realm of tilesets this week.  Trouble is, I couldn't find a good (read simple) tutorial for how to duplicate a tile.


 


I have my tile in question loaded into NWmax, changed the name, exported, and dropped it and its lovely and talented .wok file into the override folder.


 


Using the Set Editor I opened the set file, add/copied the tile, changed the tile name to match the new tile, and pointed it to the correct model.  I poked around in the Set Editor a bit more, but nothing jumped out at me that said it needed to be changed.  .set file report to the override folder at once!


 


Hmmm...what else could there be?  ':unsure:'  Probably a lot, but...


 


I tried to load the new super duper tileset that includes the one measly copied tile and...the toolset petulantly informed me that I have a List index out of bounds (501) error.  Well that was quite rude and entirely unhelpful.  After pondering the problem for a hour or so only to find no enlightenment mystically appearing, alas I was forced to admit that I indeed did not know how to get my index in bounds.


 


So, from the top, how do I duplicate a tile?

While SET editor is a great tool, I am not using it for simple tile duplicating at all.


 


Its actually quite simple.


 


You need to copy the [TILE###] from tileset you get the tile you duplicated, then you need to rewrite all the lines according to new tileset (so instead of Left=Desert there will be Left=Grass etc.)


its almost self-exemplatory, but I can probably make a exact example if needed, lmk


 


then you need to raise the Tile count (at the start on the SET file) by 1, and thats usually all. Unless the tile isnt related to terrain and its a group/feature in that case you need SET editor to create a new group and add it into palette


 


EDIT: oh, I forgot to say that the copied [TILE] line from .set file needs to be added under last [TILE#] in new set file and renamed to follow the last number!

I'd already tried exactly what you'd described, and it didn't work.  You're right, it is very easy--if your module isn't already corrupted.  (sigh)  First time that's happened to me in years.  Thanks for confirming that I really was doing it right.

Arent you removed previous extra tile you had in override and you used to build your area by any chance?

Yep, that's what I did.




The game is trying to load a tile that no longer exists. The module itself isnt neccessarily corrupted - you just need to delete that area or re-add that tile.
