Cliff top
« on: July 02, 2014, 10:08:58 am »

I tried looking for it but couldn't find anything.

Has anyone find or does know about a hak that puts something in the top of the cliff in the forest tileset? I don't really like to see the black texture. Would be really great to have something to fix that.

Thanks!

There are - or WERE on the Old Vault - a few Combo Haks of BioWare Rural/City/Forest Tilesets merged together with bits added - which included cliffs with a "top". A top which could be accessed and walked on, what's more.

With the Old Vault now apparently finally, to all intents and purposes, demised, my old links won't be of any use. Assuming nobody else can do better (which I'm sure they can) when I get back to my lair, I'll dig out the Haks, identify authors and give you the names.

If they're not on the New Vault they ought to be. Should be reposted... I'm sure someone can provide better information though. I can't be the only one still using them.

The old vault is still accessible at least for me. If you remember any information let me know!! Will try to download some combos to test it.

It was a full set of seasonal forests, pre-dating Worm's ones

A big feature of the set were the shipwreck tiles

Don't remember who made it sadly, but that's what I remember of the sets themselves

If you have no objection using an entire new tileset, there is the beautiful Zwerkules Bioforest tileset (override or hack form) that adds non walkable cliff tops.

Zwerkle's forest can be found as part of his facelift haks on the new vault (link in my signature).  The overrides consider of a separate hak for mines/caverns (like in projectq, though I believe Q's rendition has a lot more stuff added), rural, winter rural, forest, and bio default placeables.  The project page also has instructions on how to implement the haks as a 'patch hak', where you see the content in-game without actually having to attach the haks to individual modules.

The combo set I was recalling was the "City/Rural Builder Base" bundled up in Chaos Theocrat's Tileset Expansion on the Old Vault. Just put in Chaos Theocrat as author in a search and it should come up... I use it with a complete texture override and it's got some useful possibilities. There are a few similar sets, but this is the only one at present that I'm certain has the DOA Clifftops.

Not completely sure who the original author/s were.

(Sorry - with blistering Shabby Hyena ability, I discover that I've apparently lost the list of links I made for the Vault. The Hellhounds have probably eaten it).

As it has been mentioned, Zwerkules made a forest facelift that has exactly what you're looking for.

Thanks guys, I actually just wanted a cliff model with a top on it to re-scale and re-texture it to be able to represent parts of the wall in song of ice and fire. Thank you all guys.

You could have asked for that and could have gotten something resembling the wall better because the cliffs have 'overhangs' which the wall has not.

But if you add the pit you'll get a pretty plain cliff, here is an upscaled version I just tried yesterday:

And you're right, I should've asked for this because those clifftops wasn't really what I was looking for and now I have those 'blacky' tops. That you normally wouldn't see ingame, but that's ok. The final result is not that bad.

If all you want is a Placeable Cliff element, just go into the Cliff model in Notepad and you should find the mesh for the top has a line reading "bitmap ttf01_black" or some such thing. Just alter that bitmap line to reference the same texture as the face of the cliffs "bitmap snow_cliff" or whatever you're calling it. Chances are the texture will be rubbishly distorted and look a little useless, but it WILL at least be whitish rather than black.
