I believe it was Zoroaster's name in his native Avestan and may have roots in Old Iranian.

Yeah, the nickname is taken from the book by Nietzsche. It was something chose during those turbulent, dark and pessimistic teenage years, and I'm not really fond of the nick myself anymore - but since I've been using it in relation to NWN for more than a decade, it seems silly to change it now.

Just call me Z or Zar if you want, saves you from having to figure out how to type it, eheh.

Oh and Bannor (which I hereby decide to abbreviate your nickname as!) you should be pleased to know that Microsoft is planning to reinstate many of the features of the old desktop approach in an upcoming update to Windows 8.1, so at least there's hope.

The name reminds me of that song from 2001 A Space Odyssey. The song was named something like "Also Spract Zarathustra."

Zarathustra is an old persian legend of a wise man (hermes, Thoth and and and...). He invented the first monotheistic kind of "religion" and his moral ways inspired the persian king who helped the yews of babylon...well.
