Request: Rabbits!
« on: September 03, 2013, 11:20:23 pm »

               I am working on expanding Innocuous Familiars to replace all of the starting 11 familiars. I've found good models for everything but a rabbit. I think a rabbit is a must have option for a familiar as that is what magicians pull out of their hat. The perfect assistant! The rabbit models available on the vault however are *ahem* not up to today's standards.

I would really appreciate it if someone would be willing to take on modelling and animating some rabbits. In terms of the preferred size: I think smaller is better. While a dire rabbit is a cool idea, I would also like an actual bunny sized rabbit that hops and runs. Smaller than the NWN rat (which is overly large in my opinion) is a good rule of thumb for one of these. I think they should be about 25% the size of the NWN dog (which is sized just right for a dog in my opinion).

Also so that you can see what I am doing, this is my list with the replaced familiars in parantheses:
  • Bat  – (Bat)
  • Cat  – (Panther)
  • Dog  – (Hellhound)
  • Snake  – (Imp)
  • Rabbit  – (Fire Mephit)
  • Frog  – (Ice Mephit)
  • Weasel  – (Pixie)
  • Crow  – (Raven)
  • Seagull  – (Fairy Dragon)
  • Lizard  – (Pseudo Dragon)
  • Mouse  – (Eye Ball)

               ShadowM has kindly shared an extraction of the Rabbit model from NWN2. I believe much work remains to be done.

He posted the file to his HR Project page here on BSN.

__edit__
I've been looking at the animations for the existing NWN rabbit and think they are alright for reusing. Has a nice hop animation, and a nose wiggling animation when it idles.

               <hopping...>

I took a look at both the NwN2 rabbit skin and Firehazard's rather cartoonish bunny on the vault.

The proportions and placement are very different and trying to use the FH rabbit as bones for the NwN2 skin failed miserably.

In the meantime, I have retextured the FH rabbit with the NwN2 skin and fixed/tweaked the anims. I also removed the buck teeth and added an animated nose, though it needs to be pinker to be visible at that small scale.

Oh, yeah, scaled down to 30%, as per request. And made a portrait :-)

               It still got duck feet, but otherwise it looks good.

               <rolling...>

Limiting effort.
Had to remove the teeth and add the nose, but didn't waste any more time fixing the model since it's only an interim solution while I bone the NwN2 skin.

Amazing what difference the texture makes, though :-)
