I think there was another guideline on the Harvest Moon forums, but I can't find it just now...

I remember reading it somewhere when I was working on the Crone (goal was 1000 tri's), and it said something like "Boss creatures (like dragons) should have around 3,000 faces, players & NPCs around 1,500 and..." So I immediately upped the detail on the Crone :-)

               As a small note, from 1.67 onwards it's not uncommon to find creatures which break that rule - even HotU's creatures passed that soft limit. I think as long as you don't go crazy with polys you've got quite a bit of freedom.
