               7 For better looking weapons? ':blink:'

Just package up what TAD has made, release it, skip May and move on to voting for June.

               <eyeing the limbo stick...>

Admittedly, TAD sets the bar rather high, but perhaps there's a *few* weapons left that still need crafting? <a few. only a few>
Same could be said for dragon stuff, though. Tiberius has output a fantastic collection of dragon stuff recently. But... there's still room.

Regardless, this is where the interest is, so obviously the community is not *quite* satisfied with the TAD awesomeness by itself...
I like to think of it as inspiration and encouragement to create something really new ;-) <like what, old man?>
I'm thinking. I'm thinking.

<...nervously>

               I'm with FP on this. I can understand the enthusiasm for the Arabian Nights option, but don't see the need for new weapon models. I'm waiting for "Sea, Air & Land Travel" to finally make the cut. Perhaps June?

               Well, there's always "new, better looking" original "weapons".  The Reforged ones I've made (and am making) are intended as replacements for the default weapons, and are based roughly on the original concepts, with some minor creative liberties taken.

How about something completely outlandish, like some githyanki swords inspired by old 1st and 2nd edition D&D artwork?  Maybe some designs inspired by pictures of actual ancient weapons.  And there is a decided lack of gem studded decorative weapons in NWN...the ones more suitable as parts of treasure hoards than actual battlefield or enchantment use.

Although, the "new, better looking weapons" title and description do pretty much point to just models (and possibly inventory icons).  Doesn't leave a ton of room for other custom content like scripts, prefabs, sounds, etc.

As far as dragon stuff...there's a lot more for that theme that could be made.  More placeables, weapons, armor, creatures, prefab NPCs and areas, scripts, sounds...

Hmmm... who says weapons are only those sticks you hold in your hand? As you point out, what *about* weapon-creatures? What was that creature the Thomas Covenant series that turned himself into a living staff of Law? <you could create the Twins, wizard>
*shudders* Or not. Maybe Red Rage, though. Or Ankir the Iron-cleave... <chicken>
Buk buk berOCK! <heh>

What about weapon effects <another battlefield big-purple's visited, I believe ;-> ?
Weapon sounds? Oh, pretty please!? <not visual, boss>
Heh, but they enhance the, er, presentation. Yeah. <heh>

Proper Eastern-style dragons with proper Eastern-style heads? Heh. <go, boss, go! ;->
Nah. Saving it for another thread, bird. <chick...er, wimp>
Always hold something in reserve. <except when you *really* need it. preachin' to the choir, old man>

               Sometimes the issue with the voting here is that people vote for what they want to use as content rather than a theme that will inspire the creators to produce cool stuff.

I had backed the Myths and Fairy Tale theme for both reasons. I thought it would be inspiring for most of the artists and that I would get some content that I wanted out of it. But that didn't pan out either. Low turn out this month.

I think the weapon thing could be interesting though. It is VERY focused, but there are many improvements to weapons that could be made. The vault selection even with TADs recent improvements is not very good. I was particualrly excited by the weapons that showed up in the Asian theme for that very reason and have made use of them. Considering that that collection has a machete version of a Dao, I'd like to see 10 variations of machete's alone. One of the most useful and common types of blades in the real world, and all we have are a few models to select from. The scimitar is essentially a machete as well... but people seem to fixate on it as an Arab style weapon or a pirate's cutlass without seeing the whole family of blades as part sword and part axe. But anyway... I;m rambling. '<img'>

I have to agree. While TAD's weapons are superb, they still merely replace / enhance the limited existing weapons. There are a number of things that could still be done with new styles.

I just recently took Six's Diablo influenced crystal sword and expanded the colors to reflect different gemstones for my personal group. Crystal versions of other weapons could be done (a scimitar, for instance, which I am currently trying to alter this one-peice ice scimitar I came across to line up correctly and get the crystal textures to show with this particular model which, being new to all this, hasn't worked out quite as planned.

Those Elven Katanas were beautiful; I never heard anyone remark that there were already katanas in the game so what would be the point? Sure, it seems redundant on the surface, but there is so much that can be done with new styles and so many inventive ideas that could come about in addition to TAD's recent offerings.

If no one feels that motivated by the winning vote, we just won't have that much content come out of the month (much like the holy fixtures theme in the early days of the CCC). Skimping over the winning vote because someone feels another might be better served, however, would call to question why there is voting at all if it can just be overturned. Why not just pick a theme each month then and have at it? Well... because it was set up for voting regardless the outcome.

               If it does turn out that the newer weapons one is the winner, I'm sure I can come up with something original and painful.  In fact, I just did, but will wait for the start of the month to post what it is.

               Just to toss a few ideas for weapons that could be nice to have:

> Orcish weapons (thinking of something like the "Choppa" the Orcs use in Warhammer, a mix between a heavy, broadbladed sword and an axe)

> Historical weapons (i.e. realistic proportions; a seax and cutlass for shortswords, a shamshir for scimitars, a true Bidenhaender and/or Flamberge for greatswords, etc.)

> some more improvised weapons

               I'm a little in the "not terribly excited about new weapons" camp. Though I think if the new weapons were dramatic and have a new design (like the elven ones) that would be much more exciting than minor changes to improve a metal texture on existing weapons, etc. Not to bash anyone doing that at all, I just think some full redesigns would get the most ooohs and ahhhs.

While I agree that more high quality, realistic weapons would be great, a number of these show up in Feanor's armoury.
