Texture requests
« on: March 03, 2012, 10:46:53 am »

I wasn't sure how I could help ya'll without investing (so much!) time into learning the tools of the trade, which I just can't do while working on our server. I am however, already a photographer by trade... so would it be useful to request certain high resolution images? I may not know where to go to gain them all but some could be simple enough. I'm not sure how you all deal with this already or if the internet is the better resource.

We could create a repository for all our best textures. That way they'd be open for all.

                I would like this. '<img'>

Very much! '<img'>

Cuz I'm not a photographer, even a little bit ''

And my first request is for a matched set of three wings:
  • Raven Black
  • Dove Grey
  • Swan White
If I can get textures that are pretty close to the same shape/size and orientation, then I can use them all to make three versions of a Cloak of Souls (idea was the old wizard's:P) - white when worn by good alignment, grey when worn by neutral and black when worn by evil.

Properties of the cloak also vary depending on what ELF wears it... '^_^'

Anyone want to help me earn my wings? '<img'>

The cloak should look like wings folded down behind someone's back or a normal cloak shape with feather textures?

The geometry of the cloak will be something like this:

'Image

I guess I mostly want the definition of the primary feathers spreading out from the "wrist".

Something like:

'Image

But not a mallard '<img'>

I'd really like to get some fine feather detail at the extremities, and use alpha channel to make the "solid" cloak more feathered (gaps between the feathers).

Sorry I can't explain it any better...''

Oh! And at rest the cloak will hang kinda like normal cloaks, but a little twitchy.
The main "flare" will be running, walking (less so) and fighting.

That sounds like a cool and complex idea. I don't supposed you'd want to do bird wings for elves (avariel) that don't look goofy when they run, as they do currently. And I don't really have access to many bird wings, so I may post a few images here when I get time to search the internets for ya.

@ Borden (any relation to Lizzy?): I'm liking the shape, but the colorings a bit too... all over the map '<img'>

We want a really nice, sweet, saccharine snow-white kinda swan wing for the goodies, and a glossy, blue-highlighted kinda sinister wing for the baddies.  That texture might be pretty good for the neutral, though '<img'>
(The darker (number 2) on the top of the wing/cloak, and the light (number 3) for the bottom/inside of the cloak) It's really cool you did the mask, too '<img'>

Nothing's final yet, of course, but thanks! '=]'

@ J-girl: I might, but not until I get a bit better, I think.  ''
Also, I think the frames are fixed on a lot of those anims, so there's not a lot of wiggle room. Literally '<img'>

TTFN!

P.s. Am I the only one who wants textures?! Sheesh. Wallflowers...':?'

That has potential, J-oni-girl. But a bit outta my league at the mo '<img'>

So I surfed swans and wings until I found a halfway decent image. Although I'll be seperating the elements into separate elements for the actual seperate skinmeshes elements (I just wanted to say that ''), here's a composite of the outside of the cloak texture:

'Image

A little chaotic for my taste, but not too bad, and very amenable to greyscale for plt purposes. '<img'>

Adiago!

                <flying by...>

There's some excellent wing definition on this Earthshot:

Not exactly a swan, but very clear ;-)
