First trouble experience with a custom placeable set to - Usable
« on: November 01, 2011, 08:33:46 am »

Ok folks, I'm having an issue with my new placeable tree which is when I set it to {Usable} OR {Usable/Has Inventory},
when I go in the game and get to the one I set to usable and select it with the mouse, it glows light blue as it should
but the game then freezes and crashes. Now admitedly this is my first large placeable of that kind, but I'm here hoping
someone has experienced this before and has a clue what the issue is.

Anyone?

Thanks.

Some placeables are not good for being usable. Trees can be especially problematic, due to their size, and poly counts. Instead of using the tree as a usable object, set the tree to static, and place a invisible object, in the trunk of the tree. You’ll be able to open its inventory, or fire other scripts from it, and you wont have large glowing trees, that make maneuvering around a pain.

i think you need to add a few animations to the model base to have it work, even if you dont animate the mesh itself... best think is to import a plc that already allows that behavior and look at it

Let me thank you both for taking the time to attempt to help me, unfortunately it did not answer my question.

Fortunately however, I did find what the issue is. It happens so that the game doesn't like models made up
of a large list of objects when that model is SET to {Usable} in the game. What gave me a hint is how the
Tree model lit up compared to other placeables when I selected it in-game... it was spectacular! ...best looking
Christmas tree I've ever seen! '<img'>

So I just "Attached" all objects of the same type together which reduced the number of objects in the list for the
model.

Anyway, problem solved. '<img'>
