and absolutely nothing happens in 3dsm2012 when i run nmax.ms
what the deuce??
start at the beginning roddish;
so i've been following the tutorials in the custom content guide, and once again i'm having integration problems ith nwmax. so far, i can import models into gmax and play with them, thats fine. the problem comes when i try to export, no files are generated, no matter hat is selected or not selected at the time. is there anywhere that i can grab a more conscise tutorial for gmax/nwmax malarkey? this is really clipping my wings guys, and has been mutilating my muse lately too.
cheers
1) There are TWO different versions of NWMax, one for 3ds and one for Gmax. They are NOT the same. Be sure you are using the correct version for each program.
2) Install them, don't just copy scripts unless you truly know what you are doing.
3) The Gmax version actually installs a "listener" that runs as a separate process. This listener must be run Prior to loading Gmax, in fact, it will auotmatically start Gmax for you. If you load Gmax then attempt to run the nwmax scripts, it won't work correctly, and most especially will NOT export for you.
4) Nwmax scripts are old, they were designed to work with 3ds max version 5 through 9, at least I know they work with those versions. 2012 is far advanced, and may not recognize everything.
If nwmax is installed correctly, when you load 3dsmax, NWmax will automatically start up and load a GUI panel/window/set of menus. If you don't see that when 3dsmax starts, then NWMax is not installed correctly.
--------
To manually copy the scripts, you need to place them correctly;
3dsmax: (Prior to 2010)
"main3dsmaxinstallfolder"\\Scripts\\Nwmax <-- this one will contain most of it. It will have a series of sub-folders with various files in each.
"main3dsmaxinstallfolder"\\Scripts\\Startup <-- this one should contain autonwmax.ms
3dsmax 2010 onwards, changed how things are installed. It actually splits the program and places bits and pieces in several locations. The main install folder, Your personal files under "application data" and your personal files under "my documents". I think NWmax needs to be installed in the application data folder, but I no longer have a copy of 3ds2010 or later.
For gmax, I HIGHLY recommend that you run the .exe installer. I have not had gmax installed for over 8 years, so I can't remember where it's folders are located, and where it puts the extra .exe that is needed for the listener bit.
Once Gmax/Nwmax is installed correctly, you start the nwmax listener first, it loads a memory resident util that tracks what is happening in Gmax so it can export the files. That exe will leave a green icon in your running tasks section of the main windows toolbar. If that Icon is NOT there, then you will not be able to export at all.
