Adding New Skills

OK here is my Test results
Test systems
1 Desktop computer / vista 32 bit / nvida 8800 GT / NWN installed from each disk as they came out / critical rebuild ran
1 Laptop / Windows Xp 32 bit / 7900 gtx mobile / NWN installed with each disk / critical rebuild ran
1 Laptop / Windows 7 64 bit / amd HD 24000 / GOG install / No critical rebuild
1 Laptop / Windows 7 64 bit / Geforce 460M Nvidia / GOG install / No critical rebuild
2 Laptop / Windows 7 64 bit / Geforce 260M Nvidia / Diamond edition / critical rebuild ran

Desktop crashes even with rebuild
Laptop with xp and old installs crashes
GOG Laptops does not crash (seem to run smother)
Diamond editions Laptops does not crash (seem to run slower though)

My conclusions seem to point to real old installs have this error even with critical rebuild, but could be a vista or xp issue. I will give results after new installs. I do have the nwn complete but I used them to get NWN2 on these systems. I will do a reinstall on the crashing systems with one of these and report back if this fix the crash isssue. If it does not I will try a GOG reinstall and report on that. '<img'>

If you want any more specific information let me know.

Has anyone done more testing with this?

It is a PITA to be limited to a small number of skills.

I have this hunch that the AllClassesCanUse column must be 0 if any class lacks the skill on their list. Have not tested yet though.

My skills.2da currently has 39 entries and I'm likely to add some more.

I'm using these with five new base classes with their own cls_skill_*.2da. and packsk*.2da so the recommend button works.

Not had any issues yet... characters are levelling perfectly and no crashes.

One thing that might be different is that I create my characters in an external character creator to sidestep hardcoded issues with the in-game CC.

The only problem I've encountered with it is that it does not apply bonus feats at first level, so I have to fix this in LETO.  It has been suggested that NWNX/NWNCX could get even this working but - given that mine is a closed DMed campaign - it's too small an issue to bother with.

the issue with custom skills is that it crashes some but not all clients apparently. so you should test more widely than just on your own.

i am currently not trusting going past index 32 in skills.2da.

I thought it was specifically if you use "create new character". DM Frayne is presumably using "choose existing character" all the time for the externally created characters.
