New Textures For Placeable Doors. Can Anyone Help Please?
« on: July 25, 2011, 12:16:48 am »

               Excuse me?

Is there anyone out there who still plays NwN 1?

Can anyone out there aid me please?
I have been looking at the various placeable doors in the CEP, and notice that a few of them cannot be opened by normal means. (i.e. you click on the door, and it won't open)

Take this wooden door for e.g.(screenshot below)

I haven't seen any form of scripting or otherwise which will make it open actively when you click on it.

However...... take a look at these doors.
http://img833.images...olset2doors.jpg
Those are Bioware's original stone and wooden doorways.

I think they would be perfect for use with some of the NwN 2 placeable houses that someone has made for NwN 1. AND.... they open too, using an animated script. PERFECT for placing in the doorways of those NwN 2 placeable houses.

SO.... with that in mind, I have an idea.... well actually..... a request. *blush!*
I think it would be a nice idea to do some different textures on them to create more variety, at least with the wooden doorway anyway.

But there is 1 small problem here.
I don't have a single clue where to start.'<img'>
I have absolutely no idea how to add new textures to things like this, and no idea where to get them from either.

Is there anyone out there (with a good building sense) who may be happy to create something like this, which might later go into the CEP if enough people are happy with the idea? (only if i'm lucky though)

On the other hand, maybe if anyone could try to explain to me how this is done at all?
It sounds like a rather confusing process to me. :-/

But if anyone out there would be able to help me with this in some way, it would be quite an interesting idea I think. 'B)'.

The last time I checked CEP they had a zillion doors already.  Instead of using a placeable, just use a real door.  Now, you can only place a door in a doorway, right?  Well, after you place it you can move it anywhere you like.

So...
1. Place your NWN2 placeable house
2. Place a real house with a doorway down nearby, preferably with the same orientation.
3. Pick a real door and it'll spin around until you get near the doorway of the real house.  Click to set it in that doorway.
4. On the left hand side of the toolset in the tree list find the door in the list of items in the area.  Right click on it and select "Adjust Location".  Then move it around using the X,Y, Z location box to move it in front of your placeable so it looks like it was born there.
5. Delete the real house you made in step 2.
Done!

I know this isn't what you asked for but you probably didn't realize you could do this with real doors.  And it's the best kind of modding: The kind that requires 0% modding.  '<img'>

OMG!! WOW!! That is such an EXCELLENT idea!!
YOU... are BRILLIANT!! I could kiss your feet right now!'<img'> (only j/k obviously)'<img'>

And yes.... you're right.
I had absolutelty no idea of this before you informed me of it.
It's a really great idea! You provided me with very simple and easy step by step instructions which I have understoood fully indeed!

Instead of the placeable door you're moving around as the main item, for most of the part, it's the plaecable house you're moving.

I would like to know how you got to know this idea in the first place, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks a lot for that idea! I'll definitely be using it in future!'<img'>

I don't remember but almost certainly from reading the old BioWare forums.  I definitely didn't come up with it myself.  If you're looking to learn more nice tips and tricks like that, though the BioWare forums are down, you can still access the information in the NWN Omnibus.  Basically, it's a local information searcher, weighs in at about 500 megs, and it allows you to do rapid searching of full archives of toolset, custom content, & scripting forums (and a few others) along with...well...just check out the link there to see all the info it has in it.

Good for topic searching.  I recommend watching the YouTube video at that link so you can get up to speed using it quickly and get the most out of it.   Also, there's probably a "tips and tricks" thread in the NWN 1 Toolset forum here at the social site.

just so you also know lots of people still play NwN1 '<img'>

I cant say in particular how large the fan community is, but id say its as big as it was 6 or maybe even 8 years ago. it just seems that way with all the new games comming out, but i assure you this game wont go without a bang from the fans!

a great trick I use as well...
one note that may make it a BIT easier.

USE a small placeable as a placeholder for WHERE you want your door to go in the firstplace.
so you position the placeable at the height and orientation you want (the arrow facing thingy of placeable out is the direction the FRONT of your door will be facing), now simply right click the placeable and select the Adjust Location and copy the x,y,z and orientation from placeable to your door. delete your placeable..voila!
this will save you more time then trial and error method of inputting x,y,z coordinates if thats how you were doing it before.
