Issues Removing Shadows from Model
« on: July 17, 2011, 12:35:08 pm »

I've got several models that are having some unusual troubles with shadows. I select every model piece, add the modifier and untick Shadows, but they either still show up and are incredibly buggy to look at (I'd prefer making a shadow model), or it just completely ignores the 'shadow' setting in the modifier in the first place (ticking the Shadow property on a part without a shadow doesn't give it a shadow, even an ugly one).

As it's probably more descriptive to attach a file which has the issue, I've included both the texture and model in the following link of one of the several creature models that are having this issue.

Nearly all of your meshes are still set to "Shadow 1" in your .mdl file.

The simplest way to fix this as a once-off would be to edit the .mdl in Notepad and do a "replace all", changing "Shadow 1" to "Shadow 0" everywhere it occurs.

That doesn't tell you why the shadows are still turned on, though, when you thought you had turned them off.  I guess something is going wrong with the way your model is being exported from Gmax.

D'oh! For some reason it didn't even occur to me to check the file in Notepad even though I use that to set the texture file's name. Thanks. '<img'>

It might take a bit longer with multiple models, but I'm fairly used to editing every file I export in Notepad a bit anyway so it's only a bit of extra fiddling. '<img'>
