gMax/ NWMax issue
« on: April 04, 2011, 12:35:46 am »

               Hey gurus,

I no longer have access to 3dsMax, so I'm using gMax lately. I was working on a skinmesh elephant, but now I'm getting an error every time I start NWMax and load my elephant file:

COM Error

CoCreateInstance() failed
Please check your registry entries
CLSID {F088EA74-2E87-11D3-B1F1-00C0F03C37D3}

That window pops up, I click okay. Is gMax capable of exporting skin and bones models? My exported elephant crashes the toolset, but it could be other issues.

Any advice welcomed!

Your issue sounds like you are starting nwmax incorrectly.

You must load the nwmax listener first.  It creates a green icon down in the task bar.  Then load gmax.  You can't do it by starting gmax and then loading nwmax, it simply will not work.

The Gmax installer for NWMax, gives you a seperate icon on your desktop that will start everything for you.  Use that, don't start Gmax manually.

               Thanks, Bannor. I was starting it with the NWMax icon, actually. The problem was a registry error, and Old Time Radio helped me fix it. If anyone else experiences the problem, the fix is below, with thanks to Old Time Radio:

If you are running gmax 1.2 on Vista or Windows 7 and get the following error on import:

CoCreateInstance() failed
Please check your registry entries
CLSID {F088EA74-2E87-11D3-B1F3-00C0F03C37D3}

Open a Command Prompt as Administrator and run the following in the gmax directory.
"regsvr32.exe MAXComponents.dll"

That fixed the issue for me. '<img'>
