Roofs and Ceilings
« on: January 27, 2011, 04:40:47 pm »

Does anyone know if there are any haks for these? I searched the Vault and the web with no luck. In CEP they offer a few but they don't have any variations. In NWN CQ they had some nice ones but you cannot turn on and off the features you don't want to use if you use the hak version. That being said does anyone have any knowledge of  where I might find such a hak(s)?  Thanks.

I have reorganized the NWNCQ haks for myself so that you can turn tilesets on and off as a builder by not adding all of thee custom NWNCQ haks to your module's custom content list. If this interests you, I can upload what I have done to the vault. Let me know if you are interested, and I'll post a link here once I've done it.

I have tried to contact Chico at NWNCQ about this proposed change, but have yet to receive a response. I was going to hold off on posting this reorganization until after getting a response, but if this is useful to others there is no reason for me to keep it to myself. It is actually more useful if it is widely used. My intention was to make NWNCQ more flexible for builders, and reduce redundancy in player's hak folders.

Also, NWNCQ - I believe - used the neverroofer's project for all the ceilings. You could also check that project out.

lastly, there are a number of great tilesets out there that have ceilings. To name a few:

RL Core interiors has ceilings.

Versatile Dungeons and classic Dungeons by Maxam (both are amazing tilesets)

Diademus's Underdark Spider Caves

CODI interiors (make sure you get the most recent fix to this set by friedeyes)

There are many more - check out the work by six thrice, and senemenelas as examples.

I'd absolutely be interested in trying this out. The city and castle interiors are great in NWNCQ...I am not such a big fan of what they did to the caves interiors as the rock jumbles obscure and block alot of my treasure containers and other placeables that stand against or next to a wall. The ceilings and overall look and feel of them are really nice though. A bit of work needs to be addressed in the rural override as well. Alas this thread isn't about a reskinning of NWNCQ so I digress. But yes, if you would post the link you previously mentioned I am excited about trying it out.

IMO it should have been made that way from the start for a more linear experience. I do however understand all the work that goes into such things and perhaps it was overlooked or maybe to be done at a later date.

From what I found, read and gathered NWNCQ only used NR's mine ceilings? Or perhaps he based what he did off of that concept.

Thank you for the short but comprehensive list. I already have the VD tileset. I looked for the CODI interiors but only seen an Oriental one which does not fit my project at all. As for adding more haks I already use enough IMO and I am very reluctant to add any more than is neccessary. Thanks for your input and help henesua.

I'll compile the hak setup this weekend and upload it with instructions on how it is intended to be used, why I am doing it etc..., that all positive votes should be applied to NWNCQ, and Chico etc... Let me put that together. Will take a couple days (I tend to work 10-12 hour days at my day job so have little time to put this hobby stuff out quickly). I'll post a link here when I do so.

N/P,take your time. If it's going to work the way it sounds like it's going to the delay will not hinder what I am working on in the least. My actual project is already built but it's an old pw and I want to apply a fresh coat of paint because it's beginning to "feel" old. With the lack of players nowadays I am probably not even going to attract many or any new players anyways but I still like to play it and I really enjoy building so it's still fun for me at least. Not that that matters any due to the fact that you have a job that comes first lol...but yeah I appreciate it and hopefully others will find its usefulness as well. Thanks again.

Hilarious. I am working on the same thing for Vives PW. I'm adding NWNCQ and Project Q. Its been a real challenge to deal with eight year old haks and figure out how to make it all work with something like Q.

Yep I hear ya. I wish we had all of this awesome stuff at release lol..now it seems there is a ton of extraordinary content out there and is still being made but not many players to see it. Damn shame actually. Maybe NWN needs a re-release WITH ACTUAL PROMOTION like they did for NWN2.

The NWNCQ looks nice, but I prefer the ceilings included in A dungeon and Dragons. These are much larger than chico's, and it seems to me they get along better. This doesn't mean they're perfect, though; a few bugs and little details here and there need personal attention, but, overall, a great HAK.

Sorry for the delay in getting the NWNCQ Modular Hak System live. I never heard back from Chico400. So I created my own Vault Entry for the reorganization of the NWNCQ into many haks. The entry is currently pending approval.

Cool, although the fixes are beyond me at this point and time I'd still like to see them. I'll go look on the Vault. Thks.

The city ones looked decent. I prefer the higher cathedral like ceilings better myself instead of the flat plank ones. They were alot like the standard city interior ceiling in cep. As for the bugs and "little" details I am afraid you were correct. Except maybe little to someone who could fix them is more noticeable to me because they had HUGE gaps in them. By that I mean big gaping black holes where there wasn't any ceiling at all. I am not knocking the work because I damn sure couldn't do it by any means. There were just some flaws I can't do anything about. Thank you for pointing me in that direction though. I think for use in smaller areas for some things they would be ideal.

Huge gaps? Err... I was thinking more along the lines of a missing plaster model/texture over doorways in City Interior, or some clipping on certain tiles... but nothing like HUGE chunks of ceiling missing! Where did you experience such? Maybe it is a case of missing hak or corrupt download? Perhaps if you're a little more specific I may fix those for you.

I'll take some screenies of it shortly and post them. But yeah whole spots of ceiling is missing. It's just one big black void lol...And yeah I seen the doorway textures missing too.
